The hen and the Roo of this particular chick were both black and threw a partridge chick. I get that part but I wasn’t sure what he meant by how it could feather out.

I like taking the opportunity to learn what I can about the genetics this makes it clear especially with the photos you posted.

I just took the NPIP breeders' words for the Dark Partridge which is not one of the accepted APA Silkie colors but then there are a lot of Silkie colors not SOP registered yet.

Does Size Matter?

Nimue appears to significantly larger at this point than Niamh. I still thinking she hatched a little earlier. Niamh is very energetic and is not showing any issues so I'm sticking with a slight age difference at this point.

In Calif it always takes an hour just to battle parking at the supermarket! But, yes, it took us over an hour-&-a-half one way to another County to pick up NPIP DNA-sexed Silkie chicks to get the breed we wanted & vaccinated!

DH just returned from our nearest San Dimas Grain feed store who never re-orders chicks once they sell-out (last Feb); however customer demand for eggs has customers scrambling for these re-ordered Leghorn chicks ~ only about 2-dozen chicks are left!

As young as they are, I do think there could well be a marked difference in size and/or activity level just because one hatched before the other. A day is a long time when you’re only a few days old after all!
This makes logical sense to me.

And you can do the same when she buys a goat. Which you should get.

I asked a landscape guy about what to do with my wild rose problem and he said to rent a goat.
He was dead serious.

I uh...drove 3 hours to pick up a rooster once. He was a very handsome lad.
I also drove two hours a couple weeks ago to pick up a rooster for a breeder, I'll be delivering him halfway(3 hour drive) later this spring/summer
