I've been crazy busy and miss being on here regularly!
Annie has a broken toe. I think it is recent, and her foot is warm where her other foot is cool. I posted on the injuries thread but would love your input as to the best way to treat.
Her toe is turning sideways & under, she reaches forward in her stride and doesn’t want to let it flex at the back of her stride. Yesterday she would stand with her foot raised. Today I saw it once but think she’s more comfortable than yesterday.
I downloaded the "How to treat Avian fractures" manual, but didn't make a very good boot. https://theiwrc.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Duerr_Splinting_Manual_2010.pdf
It helped her, and she was comfortable on it, but it didn't last.
I won't try tonight, as I'd want to monitor it, but I'm wondering if a splint with vet wrap on the individual toe, wrapped around the foot to secure, would work? I did not have a premade boot but of course now have them on order. I could make a stiffer boot in the meantime, flexible styrofoam but a thin plastic lid underneath, and wrapped better.
Gave her liquid Tylenol last night, a bit difficult opening her beak and a sticky mess, then not seeing bruising today I gave her 1/2 baby aspirin which she gobbled up, about six hours apart, much easier. Thoughts?
