Hi everyone. Work has been crazy busy. Caught a stomach bug and salmonella around first of April and wasnt able to keep anything down. Just now getting my strength back. Nothing like being dehydrated and malnutrition for 3 weeks to zap your energy. Hope everyone and their chooks are well. I look forward to trying to catch up.
That must have been agony. I've had salmonella a couple of times. Once when I was abroad.

Here's hoping you are recovering well. Please keep us updated

Good to have you back!

Making me hungry! I have miserable cankers yet again making eating miserable. So I am struggling with eating.
Kelly, please try and get some good nutrition into you. Via drinks if necessary.
My Dr says likely stress - from work, and lack of good sleep.

Tired and hungry tax

Our boy had an adventure last night; seems he didn’t want to stay in his new home, hopped the fence and took off.

The new Hoomans were in a panic, hunting for him. They finally found him, caught him and now he is in the coop for a few days to get familiar with his new harem and home.

Gosh these chickens are going to drive us crazy aren’t they 😊♥️👍

I'll have to go look and see if I can get pictures. The grass has been mowed since I noticed them.

Cooking is fairly easy. Grandma always removed any dead leaves, roots or debris from the greens. Then we washed them several times. She would then cook them all together in the same pot. Greens, water, and her go to, bacon grease to season. It did not take long, 30 minutes to a hour depending on how big of a pot she was fixing. Serve it up with a slice of fresh out of the oven cornbread and if you have them on hand fresh green onions and enjoy.
I have fresh hot cornbread on my kitchen table today too! :drool

Oh my! Yeah I really hope it's something other than chickens. I was able to get hypoallergenic body wash at the store yesterday, that was nice to not have to use an ivory soap bar. 😆 it's so drying!

Tax, here are the little darlings about ready to move outside to the heated coop.
Definitely not used to leghorns, they're so active and look at the combs already!!! Maybe these girls will have big flopover ones.

And then there's Dream, so tiny in comparison. Hubby asked if she's staying with the newborns when they hatch, so I need to think about that for a bit.
If those are truly pure White Leghorn they will definitely develop floppy combs ~ the 1st year not so huge but by 2 yrs full-on Veronica Lake resemblance & a pain to deal w/during freeze weather. Wonderful active lightweight forager & very good at minding her own business in the flock.
