That's a tough place to be. Have you considered taking them to church with you and giving them to people who may need them after the service?

For that, sir, I’m only one source for eggs and around here the bounty is incredible. They literally take my eggs because they come from my chickens, showing respect for me.

You know it could have been a predator, you have a lot of stray cats, or sickness. Many chicks don't survive for reasons other than the mother hurting them.

My pastors wife is ill . He had a full sermon planned, but he needs to be with his wife. I’ve called all the elders to assist with the service today. I will be preaching to the congregation. Perfect timing too. My subject will be on “how do we deal with a loss”

Mama Phoebe laid her first egg! The Eastern Phoebe normally lays 4-5 eggs (but sometimes 2-6), and brown headed cowbirds, which are obligate brood parasites, often lay an egg or 2 in a Phoebe nest so if that happens, how cool! Would be fun to observe. Incubation is about 16 days and they typically raise 2 broods during the breeding season.
