Polish were on my wish list of 400 wanted breeds. But in a zone limiting 5 hens/no roos it became a wee problem cycling thru those wishes. Do you know, we started only wanting two little bantams, either Cochins or Silkies, just as a couple little pets DH chose since he never had anything but a dog or kitty before. Yep chicken math hit but we always kept under the 5-bird limit. Somehow there was never an opportune opening to get two Polish chicks together & they were never offered at the feed store (we learned it best not to get just ONE breed chick by itself).

There was such a popularity over Silkies as far back as the '70's even shown in magazine ads w/celebrities, & when owners discovered their hardiness as well as their cuteness they became easily ready to find here. Besides layer breeds Silkies dominated as a bantam breed even though they are listed in the APA & not the Bantam assn. I think Silkies may even have started the U.S. trend to import rarer bantams & chicken breeds. Crested breeds really took off too. Polish almost went extinct until all those gorgeous European & game birds started getting imported.

Sadly, we'll never cycle thru the remaining 395 breeds on my wishlist 😕

I have added Hmong to my list now. Maybe next year…. It’s that dreaded Roo thing though.

At the moment I have 4 with Jolly - who is becoming a brat, twice this morning he grabbed my instep on my foot trying to breed it I know but ouch! He has a sharp beak!

No splint? interesting. Where was the break?

Midnight? I wasn't aware ~ I get engrossed in J. Vernon McGee & Brandon Holthaus lessons so the time flies. Sometimes I'm an insomniac too.

I also didn’t bother with a splint for Ruth last year, she was not keen on having one on, so I just left her be. She pretty much just ate and rested anyways. Some pain meds (Tylenol and aspirin) and in a few months she was fine.

Sometimes bandages and such cause more issues. Have to just evaluate each one, some are more tolerant than others.

The Japanese yodeler is famous. He always carries a Leghorn, poor bird. Notice how pale the comb is? He has such a firm hold on her legs! As long as he's famous & making $$$ I don't think he cares a rat about her JMO.

Likely not used to animals.

Most people don’t know!

This little one with those blue eyes, possibly a boy, named Dean, after my father. If not a boy, then the name is Deana image.jpg

I tried splinting and bandages for Sweet Coco, but she just pecked it off.

No ponies for Sunday but my daughter and I spent this morning just doing some chicken sitting and watching so I have a some photos to share.
