I find that having the turkey vultures next door seems to deter the hawks a bit.Horrifying!
Absurd that we think we can deter a bird like that with a statue of an owl. Way too smart to be fooled!

You did really well with him. He's a special little man.As with any and all living creatures, some require desensitizing, my chicks that are the least outgoing and nosey/friendly are the ones I will get hold of daily and handle when they are babies. It doesn’t matter if they seek me out for attention, I just make sure they are used to being handled so when they are older they don’t freak out when I need to do something.
Like Mr P - when I got him he was wild! Wouldn’t come near me at all. I made sure to handle him as often as I could. Now he doesn’t run off from me, and this morning he popped into the feedroom with me alone. And last night I was pretty much able to trim his spurs and nails with out too much fuss.
He will never be a lap chook but he has learnt that I am not going to murder him!!!

You should do it. I did a concert in my own last summer and I loved it. I had a great time.Sunshine on the Leith
It was IMHO a really good night. The audience loved it as much as I did.
There's an Eagles tribute band I would love to see next month, but no one wants to go. I might bite the bullet and have something to eat before the show and go on my own. Then arrange for a taxi home. People I know are so stuck in their way's. They don't like shows. Well I do and I want to live
Nope, lavender Orpingtons are pretty much lavender from the start.Lavender orpingtons?
I like this guess.OMG how eggciting! More babies! Love it. So glad you got them - chocolate Orps? I take it? Gosh lovely! So jealous, we just don’t have the options up here for all those types of chooks now that Peavy Mart is gone (and just as well I don’t really need more!).
Gosh thanks for sharing, I am living vicariously through all of you![]()
Such pretty colors/patternsNosy Posy is a "polkie" half silkie half polish.
Wake up, Missy! You're supposed to chase rabbits... not just watch themCaturday
Now that Mama Robin’s nest is empty Missy is now able to sleep on the bureau while looking at the rabbits in the backyard.

Maybe keep it closer to the floor so a rambunctious chick doesn't fall out too far when you open the door? Chicks are so fast & unpredictable...Yes I think mine was sold as a dog pen. My only issue is finding a table big enough for it to sit on.
Ask @Debbie292d for their assessment~ they raise lots of Silkies. Or @Hinotori who also raises lots of Silkies over the years. That was my assessment too, though I thought experienced Silkie people would be able to see tell-tale signs in the pics even if I couldn’t!![]()
