OMG how eggciting! More babies! Love it. So glad you got them - chocolate Orps? I take it? Gosh lovely! So jealous, we just don’t have the options up here for all those types of chooks now that Peavy Mart is gone (and just as well I don’t really need more!).

All in a Saturday’s work….

That looks like what I do every other week (usually)! I calculated that I go through ~35 lbs of feed a day. I usually get feed - 450-600 lbs. at a time - plus some bales of shavings. Unfortunately, with my truck out of commission - and will be for a bit, I am having to go more frequently and get fewer bags at a time.

That is a lot fo work at once for you - too bad the chooks can't help, ha, ha, ha.

I have corrupted another friend into getting chickens. Check out the Barred Rock / Buff Orpington crosses my friend got yesterday.

This thread is so full of corruption I'm not surprised. Look at Ponypoor. She's trying to dilute herself into not getting chickens! The sheer thought of it!

We had to delay ours until next year.

Oh my gosh! It’s an epidemic!

Yay!!! My broody girl's first egg hatched - I wasn't expecting anything until tomorrow - last night was day 19...and it hatched mid-morning.

(she has/had 6 eggs under her - I never candled them - we will see how many hatch. I have another broody girl that I caved and let have some eggs this past week....6 also......)

Wait, they got rid of Peavy Mart?

Yep went into receivership - couldn’t compete with other similar larger stores here (Canadian Tire, Princess Auto..), with all sell hardware and such at lower price points.

Unfortunately those other stores don’t sell feed! Princess Auto has a whole farm section so I can get my stuff for the barn etc there (and usually did).

Peavey Mart was a pioneer up here for selling chicks on-site and for getting up from the US hatchery Hoovers.

My only option now for getting chicks is Frey’s Hatchery. They have started carrying more ‘exotic’ breeds (Orps, speckles suspects….) but those sell out really fast.

I can get breeds I want from backyard breeders but they are straight run. I need pullets.

Performance Poultry has many exotic breeds but they are a 4hr drive from me, seems they are completely sold out for this year!

Oh ya, they helped, they got under foot and generally made a mess of the feedroom, esp Daisy - that one and Tippy are always trying to break into the feedroom to lay eggs. Brats!

Oh I can’t wait to see them Georgie has been crying pitifully pleading with me to give her eggs. I locked her outside in the Rooster Run, now she cursing me like a banshee - I told her get in line sister, there are more ahead of you wanting to curse me out!

Belle and Beauty, believed to be Gold Laced Cochin bantams. Name was due to me trying to think of Disco themed names due to their “bell-bottoms”. When suddenly Belle popped in my head, and Beauty was a nice counterpart. This is just Belle, but they look almost identical.

Great names and I love the shoulder chick! Mine do that sometimes but I get scared they will peck my eye so I don't let em stay to long.

he's gotten demanding. Walks the rail in front of me when treats are going out....demanding his share. I suppose that's fair as the birds raid his food, Blanche being the primary for that. I think Storm is sharing the idea with more as I caught her showing his dish to some of the younger crew yesterday
