You can see how they are built go over Plains, hard dry Stoney ground. Whilst running, their innards slosh front to back creating a piston which works the lungs. They don’t have a diaphram like a human which helps us breath.

You can hear their breaths when they run, the faster they run the faster the piston works to make the lungs work!

Nature is amazing.

Here is what it sounds like

I can tell you there is nothing like being on a horse at a flat out gallop! It’s tremendous! Just thinking about it, I can ‘feel it’, the power of the horses muscles, the sound of them breathing. The sound of their hooves. It’s been a long time since I have had a horse young enough that I can take out in the tree plantation across the road and go for a good rip! My old girls are not up to that these days (me neither I bet!!!).
W/ that kind of internal organ placements it's amazing horses live so long especially being as big as they are. Chickens also have weird internal organ placements too when looking at their anatomy.

Black Hen Farm in Calif used to rescue chickens but dont seem to anymore. They do allow their poultry to live out their lives though. They are more of an organic operation utilizing farmers markets now. I thought this statement on their website a little difficult to believe on chicken longevity ~ I've never had a long-lived bird:

They are allowed to live out their full lives. Most operations kill
hens after 1.5 to 2 years when they begin to lay fewer eggs. A
chicken's lifespan can be 25 years or even more.

Just gorgeous. They really don’t like the gun shots do they.
It’s just constant ongoing bang bang ongoing - so annoying! So much for peace and quiet here.

The horses are just running now - I daren’t go and bring them in, if they panicked in the stall and fell and broke a leg it would be very difficult to get them out of the barn once euthanized. Not to mention dangerous for me! They weigh 1000lbs at least, I might be a 10th of that.

I was going to go for a ride but not now.

They really should go to the gun range (it’s not like we don’t have about a dozen around here), or go to Borden 10 min away and enlist 👍😉

Even the chooks are all jittery, I am just hiding out here in the feedroom! No use trying to comfort them, just makes them more jittery if I am not acting naturally. So I stay in here away from them.

I was trying to plant the last of my tomatoes….

Mad as a wet hen

A friend had a 12 yr old hen. That’s the oldest I have heard of.
