No, a mottled houdan mix, taking the crest down to a partial crest size so trimming is less needed. Thing was so interesting that I would consider these.
Head poofs are awesome!

Tough day for me today. This must be a lawless town. People are so rude about nothing and not a single rooster is allowed in city limits. Glad I didn’t go to Walmart today, but I did go get feed and some clothes for myself. (Feed is for the chooks not me).
I have to return to town tomorrow for yard work and then I will go to Walmart and get corn. 🌽
Rant over:

Pretty birds. Whats with standing on one leg in the first picture? I thought you didn’t allow that!

I don't know enough to know what questions I have!
Any tips, tricks, things that seemed to work.
Someone here said to pop the chickens under the hen's rear end for example. I would not have guessed that..
Bob told me he did it just before dawn. Others have said once it is dark. Which did you do?
I assume you trade out eggs and replace with chicks. Did you add in broken egg shells?
How many days old were the chicks? I have to balance the Marek's vaccine. It takes a while for the vaccine to 'take', but the older the chick the less likely I imagine she will accept them. Not sure what the sweet spot really is.
The sweet spot is one day old. It seems that each hen is different. Tassels wants to be a mom so badly that I expect she will take what you give her but you just never know until you try.

I take it they took offence to you bringing you buddy along?

The trouble with one day old is that the stats from studies suggest I would lose half of them to Marek’s in the first 2 months.
Same as if they were not vaccinated.
If I wait 10 days then 90% will survive.
Small breeds at 6 days maybe? Or take a risk on 5 days. Hard to know what to do.

Coop adjustments & an adventure

I put in the shelf that came with shed it’s about 8” wide. I think/hope the silkies will like this. I will put sand mixed with First Saturday Lime to keep the poop easy to clean up. 🧼 I moved the ramp over to this side.

The other roost bar remains just without a ramp, I have seen the SFH’s make the leap up with ease so hopefully it will still get used.

Big day they all got to explore the big outside today.

Also, this is our run it’s 16x11 the ply board is there to block wind, rain, and snow. I have lots of logs 🪵 in there that I move around from time to time to keep it interesting.
