But this is true, I would never feed my chooks anything that I wouldn’t try first. There’s exceptions to that rule.

My CeeCee is wondering why she’s getting all this special treatment so early in the morning. Corn cob, fresh scratch, and a hard boiled egg. I told her “it’s because I love you! And I can’t think of a better reason!” She will figure it out, she’s an EE, and they are smart.
Are they not, your Royal Highness Queen Aurora?

As Miss Ceecee stands here staring at me, she’s done with the corn and the scratch. Wasn’t too interested. But she was eyeballing the jar of Ritz crackers on the shelf. “Yes dear, let me get it down for you and open the jar”. By now, she’s so close, I can feel her breath on my arm. No sooner did I remove the lid, she had her head in the jar removing crackers.
These chooks are so entertaining (even at 4:00 PST)

For the vitamin B, it is specifically B2 deficiency that causes curly toe paralysis. You can supplement with a human ‘B complex’ (which has all the B vitamins) or you can get B2 specifically on line.
I don’t know that B12 on its own will help a lot although it can be associated with leg weakness.
I would cover your bases and just get B complex from the pharmacy.
That may be what you are doing so apologies if it is. I was thrown by ‘B12 complex’.

Good catch, my only excuse it was quite late when I posted. Liquid B complex is what I have for her not B12 complex.

Not sure which marans

So, @SimpleJenn , is that her name now? "Hey, Not Sure, come on over for treats!

I finally named the butt-pecking Marans, she's Deb (and DEB-O-RAH) when she bites too hard
She even looks like a Deb.

Not-sure...I'll have to see what I can come up with. She's a sweetie, comes over and doesn't peck me very much compared to her sisters. Maybe her name can be Gentle... I have 5 or 6? Black birds and it gets hard to tell them apart haha. I do call them collectively the Marans mess Cemani looks very similar to them if I can't see his comb or legs. Soon he'll have a big tail though.
How do people tell apart when they have so many of one breed and color? Hopefully when they are all laying they will be a bit more distinct.

My mother in laws birds (and two are kiddos)
Blanche, Sophia, Rose, and Dorothy. Then Dream the legbar and Diva (Diva is the one with the biggest comb) I can only tell Dream and Diva apart here.

I use a scalpel.  Partly because I am not great at knife sharpening (I can only seem to get the knife 80-90% of the way to 'shave your arm hair' sharp)  I then replace the blade every X # of chickens

Colored legbands are frequently used to tell similar birds apart. There does need to be regular checks on those to make sure they're not too tight or too loose. I've never used them.

This little man has taken it upon himself to be with the meat-birds. They just got off quarantine Saturday and have been integrating since then. Nosy Posy is making sure they get food and water.
