Make a big puddle on the ground - trust me they will dig and splash in that!
I soaked the dirt in the open part of their run so they have mud to squish around in... It's just so hot and the ground is so thirsty that it soaks in really fast!

Get a box and put it in the shade for her to lay her egg in.
She laid in the next box a couple minutes after I posted. But this is a good idea! I'll have to see if I can find something for them...

Marble is getting moved around all over the continent. Hope he doesn't miss Buffy. At least Nosy is going along w/ Marble 💕
Just the state! He moved 2 hours to be with me, then he'll be moving 5 hours (thankfully 2 drives split up) to head up a laced Polish flock! And Nosy Posy is going to the fun rooster pen. Which is good because he's an egg eater! 🥚 🍴 I think just the soft shells though.

Here is the latest reading from my coop thermometer.
It is the 81% humidity that is killing me.

I feel for the cattle outside in this. And the wildlife. The horses are in poor Truly is soaked with sweat, Reenie isn’t so bad.

And the chooks are out trying to bury themselves in the dirt. And Babe is sunbathing - crazy bird!

Sybil was sunbathing yesterday too! In the 100⁰ heat! And she was already panting! I thought, are you trying to cook yourself?! I don't want chicken for dinner!

He's so sweet 💗 . Heads up info ~ You're in Calif like me. Keep an eye out for those mosquitos. Their bites can carry fowl pox in heatwave weather. Keep an eye out for little white spots on face flesh, wattles, or comb on chickens. Catch it early to treat the spots daily w/ ophthalmic triple antibiotic ointment which is safe around eyes (Amazon) before it becomes wet pox in the eyes or trachea. Keep bird isolated during treatment till all spots are completely healed around 2-3 wks. Good news is that once a chicken gets fowl pox they have immunity from pox the rest of their life.

I have a pic of Violet w/ dry pox but she's smeared w/ ointment in the pic. She had spots on her walnut comb/beak & on her ears & face skin.
