The girls are playing in the nest boxes, annoying the laying hens. Squatch was hollering at them when I came out to check.

And we have 3 nice little eggies!

No joke ♥️ I am in the midst of some changes here and too busy to tend to new babies.

But next year I would like a nice lavender Orp and if I can find it some dark Brahma ♥️
I fully support the addition of Dark Brahma's. Mrs. E literally fell into my lap. I was not looking for more chickens, did not need anymore new breeds. She has became a sweetheart and I adore her. She is not cuddly by any means during the day. I have to catch her on the nest or handle her at night if I want to pet her. She is smart though and friendly in a "I will be beside you, just do not touch" sort of way. George has fallen hard for that girl and where you find one, the other is just a foot or two away. Mrs. E is George's Marty. When I pick up George she is at my feet telling me off even though he is not struggling. If I hold him too long for her comfort, she starts pecking at my pant legs. When I was administering the lice treatments, George struggled and Mrs. E got angry did come at me. She got a kick in and managed to scratch me through my pj's. She was good as gold for her treatment though. She was a great layer this spring when she started up. Big eggs too. Now that for the last 2 weeks summer has made it appearance her egg production has almost came to a halt. I expected that after reading up on them and seeing that they do not lay well in the heat. I'm really looking forward to seeing if she holds true to the breed description of laying well in the winter. I need a good winter laying hen that is not a young pullet or one that is picking back up laying after raising late summer or early fall chicks.

Phew... This heat wave is no joke. I woke up early this morning sick from the heat, throwing up and everything. I feel better now after a nap, but I'm staying inside today. The girls will have to keep themselves cool.

Remember to stay hydrated and dont risk your health being out in the heat. Take lots of breaks in the AC if you can, if you have to work outside. I'm still feeling tired and a little off, but thankfully not throwing up anymore. 🫩😮‍💨

Rehydration is so important to remember in the heat.

That's really concerning. Please take care the next couple of days.

I get the same way in the heat. I make clear pedialyte ice cubes to mix into my water, coffee, or tea. I'm so grateful for central air in my house, but I'm immediately sick when I have to go outside at all. I also hardly eat when we have heat waves, not like it's going to stay down anyways. 🙄
Little terrors. I can sympathize with the laying hens.
They're so confident! The meaty boys were chased around and afraid to go to the feeders when I integrated them, but these little ladies just marched out and fly away if anyone starts to come at them! I think they're chasing the meaty boys around too.

After the first day when Delft flipped one over, now they take no crap from the smaller ladies.
