Gaby will come inside now. She likes to sleep inside. Usually because it's hot out.

Do you find your Dom's more conversationalists than other breeds? Our Dom's since chicks were unusually chatty. Our Silkies are also an interactive chatty bunch.

We'd talk to our Leghorns & they would look intently & attentively but didn't converse back. Our Breda's & Ameraucanas were not conversationalists either .

Well, we own an acre and a half (roughly). Physically closest owns the other 18.5 of the original 20 acre plot (the field below us). The part I walk Sherlock on most mornings (shed/blue horse trailer) is another multi-acre plot, half on the flat, half falling off to the creek flood plain. The place on the other side of the roses is another multi-acre plot. The one with all the cars is another and the place with the storage units (not pictured very often) is yet another. The green and cream place across the creek is a 100 acre place. The whole area is a section divided into mostly 20 acre lots, but has some other sized places. Up the creek are several 5 acre lots. All of this is several miles from town and even farther from any major shopping.

Those 2 pics are great ~ a surprise deer ~ & w/ all the acreage in the area one hen gets too close ~ it tickled my funny bone!

In the House Again

I had to bring Hattie in again. She was in the nest box in the Cluckle Hut in distress again.

I will keep her in until the temp starts down again and then move her back out. I need her to adjust to heat so I don't want to keep her in the house. I know the in/out is not good. Im not sure what else to do.

She is resting comfortably right now.

The older our girls get, the more care they need. We lost 1 & 2 yr olds to heatstroke while laying so my thinking is they all deserve pampering in-house if they don't take heat stress well. If Hattie is an Orp, older, or heavier bird my choice is keep her in till she stops laying... but that's me

Hubby is worried that Breezy has heart problems, the breed tends toward them because they gain fat easily (hence the marbled meat)


Caught him again, gave him more cool water and tried to give him an ice pack but he wiggled free and ran off.

It is miserably hot out. I spotted both Momma's hanging out in the shade with their chicks near the creek bank. I sat out on the back step for a few minutes sweltering so as not to disturb them and get some new pictures.

First up is Goose and her boy. I suspected so at hatch and I cannot deny it now. I've actually known for a few days as he is not even 2 1/2

weeks old yet and look what he is sporting on that pretty little head of his.

Next up is Gryffyn's 2. Right now they are behaving and not sporting any hints of a comb. Georgette has also revealed who her mother is as I did not get to see what egg she hatched out of. I just was told by mom a light tan or cream colored egg. Her feathers are coming in a soft yellow. My lone Buff hen Siri is his/her momma. It makes perfect sense now. Clean legs, white hatch down and when it does sprout, a single straight comb. Georgina, spots, more spots are popping as she looses her hatch down. The newest little black spots are in her tail feathers. Little one, do not let me down, you have the potential to be the most adorable spotted bowling ball as a adult.

Rose chit chats, the buff girls also. Laverne just stares at me (likley wants to peck my eyes hahaha), clyde likes to chat, Mr LC tells me off I am sure
