Gaby only came in for mealworms today. 80F is not too hot for her apparently.
Humidity plays a big part in how tolerable our temperatures are here. 65F to 75F is usually the best temp's. Anything outside those ranges are unacceptable. We are having SoCalif June gloom (overcast no sun) mornings keeping our days at 80F or lower but when July comes around humidity levels will make it feel like a sauna ~ maybe not like the USA Southern states but we are not immune to humidity when the entirety of Calif's western boundary is completely ocean coastline. One thing for sure is we'll bring any laying hen indoors if temps spike over the 100F range!

Okay everyone, so after some consideration, her name is now Hawk. I went from Blondie to Shakira, but my mother was telling me that her face looked like a hawk and it hit me that the black one we have is called Raven and I figured it would make sense if we called this brown one by a type of bird. So Hawk and Raven. Two types of birds.

Great names❣️

Now you'll have to get a ring like this. I got this stainless steel ring on ebay real cheap ~ doesn't tarnish like silver & is more durable compared to pricey gold or silver.

The ring reminded me of our Ameraucana & also our Breda Fowl. Chickens can look like hawks, crows or ravens sometimes.

I remember the temperatures from over there. It was better than here. Here it's all dry and hot sun right now, with the exception of today and yesterday.

We actually had a mega downpour last night. The chickens are not happy and I think dumb ol' broody Agathae moved back out to the perch despite me putting her up in the top.

I get the same way in the heat. I make clear pedialyte ice cubes to mix into my water, coffee, or tea. I'm so grateful for central air in my house, but I'm immediately sick when I have to go outside at all. I also hardly eat when we have heat waves, not like it's going to stay down anyways. 🙄

They're so confident! The meaty boys were chased around and afraid to go to the feeders when I integrated them, but these little ladies just marched out and fly away if anyone starts to come at them! I think they're chasing the meaty boys around too.

After the first day when Delft flipped one over, now they take no crap from the smaller ladies.
Thanks for that information. The heat outside makes me nauseous too.

She is beautiful. She reminds me of dear Owly. Little Owly looked like a baby hawk as a youngster as well.

Dr appointments for both me and Rosie this morning. Rosie has to see a ENT, tonsils and adenoids have to come out. She already has another double ear infection once again. He is sending me to a orthopedic surgeon. Finally got a MRI on my shoulder and there is a tear. Bad enough that he is skipping physical therapy and heading straight for surgery.

They have a mind of their own, don't they? Sometimes I have to remember how different each bird is... Dana likes to go roost early/first. Ginny dawdles going to bed, the Silkies chit-chat a lot, 3 Silkies pile into one nestbox even though we try to separate them to individual boxes, etc etc 💕

I love how over time a perfect name develops for a pet 💕
