I was going to ask about Dirt - poor fella. Glad he’s settled down. Both can give their owners a heart attack that is for sure. Dirt put me through the wringer for 3 days after Russ left. He did NOT take it well. He hollered, went off his feed and drank considerably less water. He also paced his stall and pawed the gate which he now has a loose front shoe. All of this mind you at the start of our heat wave. Dang it Dirt, you were a walking colic case waiting to happen and had me checking on you hourly.
It was totally understandable though and we thought it may happen. Dirt has never been by himself before. He is good now, I just had 3 sleepless nights.
Gryffyn saw this and said hold my beer I can top that. I will say though today she kept herself and her chicks away from the creek bank. They spent the entire day in Russ's old stall which has turned into a chicken paradise. Well, momma and baby paradise as Goose and her son love it as well.
I wonder about the crests trait. So far George's son shows no sign of a crest. I'm thinking with the black coloring and feathered legs he is either Squirrels son or Spooky's. I'm leaning towards Squirrels as he is showing a lot of Maran's traits and Squirrel is half Marans. Her eggs are also not nearly as dark as they used to be so it is entirely possible that the lighter tan egg was hers.
When I took those last photo's of the chicks I thought maybe, just maybe the start of a crest on one of them. I also thought nope, optical illusion with chick down. Last night getting a good look up close and personal and 2 days later it confirmed it was not a illusion and both will have a crest.
