I never heard fireflies were an issue for chickens.
Sadly there seem to be fewer and fewer each year.
We have SO many this year! But we did a little habitat restoration with the treeline on our field.

I did just pull a wad of tarp string from the beak of a different hen. I wonder if Blue and Yeti ate really long ones and hurt their guts? Their crops felt soft and empty when I checked them though.
Yeti waddled away from me, pressed her head into the dark corner of the box, and laid down. Blue followed and pressed right next to her.

So much to worry about w/ pets! My old Silkie got hobbled feet from tarp shreds so now we don't allow tarps to wear out. The first hole we see the tarp gets tossed! Tarps are so useful but they have no longevity! We switched from the cheaper blue tarps to the stronger silver ones but we still have to replace 1 to 2x per year depending on weatherwear.

Best to remove anything they might find tasty. They are worse than kids for getting into things.

Lost a blonde chick during the night, was with PITA. Donned my leather gloves, removed the body. She was surprisingly reasonable about that part....less so when I took the eggs from under her. She still had 1 baby. Cardhu was out with only 3, so I grabbed most of the ones running around Focus and gave them to PITA. Hopefully that gets her off the nest today and they all head out with the littles.
This is just crazy. The way the chicks are just moving between mums.
