Glad he's ready now. Remind him of the Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up principle. I know a lady who shot, then in trying to be nice, took the dog to the owners....who tried to sue (they lost).Thank you!Yes, it's just so senseless and avoidable. There are so many 5 acre plots around here, we have no idea who owns the dogs. Sadly over the years there have been some that never made it back home. It sounds like at least one of these was very aggressive and growled at my son and came towards him, he was finally able to chase them off. He and his family are staying with us for a few months. My DIL is a travel nurse. He grabbed one of our shotguns when he realized what was going on, but grabbed one that wasn't loaded. He's prepared now if they show up again. Our grandbaby's are 5 & 2, they like to play in our yard. We can't allow aggressive animals to be there.
I’m sorry but that is kinda dumb!Glad he's ready now. Remind him of the Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up principle. I know a lady who shot, then in trying to be nice, took the dog to the owners....who tried to sue (they lost).

BR's are generally mellow temperaments that I feel sorry for Focus... at least she still keeps some chicks w/her & hasn't abandoned a little group of chicks... which looks like those chicks aren't terribly picky about which mom to follow2 weeks old, and bold little things.
Not sure what's going on between PITA and Focus. More observations needed.
It's not actually a defect. Both rose and pea combs are dominant over straight combs. It's more the presence of a straight comb indicates the ABSENCE of either Rose or Pea combs. The presence of BOTH rose and pea shows as a Walnut comb. All 3 can have straight comb masked under the other comb, but a straight comb can only exist WITHOUT Rose or Pea genetics. (V-comb falls outside of that somewhere and simply does odd things...or sometimes nothing at all)Glad I read aheadI figured you'd have the answer
This is a relatively common "defect" (?) with the rose comb, isn't it? An inverted spike or something like that?
A Hatchday With No Party
Today is a momentous day. Hattie turned 7 today. She is likely the oldest chicken to ever reside at Fluffy Butt Acres!
Unfortunately, the weather has prevented any party as it is raining out.
So instead we will celebrate with photos of Baby Hattie!

In her case, more naive. She grew up in a hurry through it....and her child (the one the dog was menacing when she shot it) was safe. I think the dog owners moved back to the city after that...I’m sorry but that is kinda dumb!
Einstein has either paused laying, or she decided to move to a different tree. Will have to pay closer attention for the next few days.

That Mulberry comb looks like a problem. Can a vet surgically trim the comb to keep the feathers from pushing into his eyes? W/ our Silkies it's a daily vigil to make sure there's no feathers in their eyes.Wattles Wednesday
Cotton has some impressive wattles, and I love the deep purple color.

His comb is leaning even more to the side now, and starting to push some of his feathers down over his eye on that side.

I loved your pool before... & now it's almost too beautiful for the duckiesMiscellaneous news and pics.
I noticed tonight that one of the lavenders, Orchid, has an unusual comb. Not sure what type this would be and how they would happen.

The duck pool got an upgrade. Added a waterfall and spitting turtle for some circulation and filtration, and changed the block around it to match.

Cyprus’ feathers literally change every day, and he has some “drake curls” now.
