Here's a photo of Tony because tomorrow, me and Tony are going to be having some fun. Ever since Grandma passed, bringing a chicken in the house hasn't been enjoyable since they would rather run around and you can't leave them unsupervised because they won't sit still. So I've avoided bringing them in the house. Grandma could be left unsupervised for several hours and still stay in the same spot. I hope Tony learns something from her.

Grandma was smart enough to know where it was warm in the winter and cool in the summer :)

Weekly synopsis for week of 19 July to 26 July 2025

Previous week’s synopsis.

BY Bob
For Mugs Monday we were all enchanted by the Wonderful marching of HRH Queen Aurora.

And yes a very Stylish mug indeed! These lovely ladies are not babies anymore. I feel I need some Polish hens.

The quintessential hen – a gorgeous Leghorn.

Update from Rebecca posted by Ponypoor.

Seems Elvis is alive and looking awesome! I was a bit perplexed at first thinking ‘how did my Elvis (aka Jolly) get there?!

I would like someone to bring their chook to my work!

And just look at all those chicks! They have an amazing place to grow up, trees to climb, and mamas to hop up on.

RoyalChick
It’s contagious this broody business – Piglet might just stick it out this time around!

Looks like someone wishes to gift Piglet with some eggs, enabler fluffy butts!

Isn’t it great that society loves chickens? This is a lovely example of a ‘blue rooster’ haha!

SimpleJenn
Off to the swap meet to see if a new home can be had for these lovely ladies.

Babies are popping up everywhere it seems!

You brought home ‘bag-pipes’? Oh I want some of those!

And a new construction project is now underway.

featherhead007
Mr Featherhead really has some lovely youngsters in these latest chicks. And Chick-fil-a is doing good after his injury. What a lovely youngster he is.

And look at the legs on those other youngsters!

notabitail
…has been very quiet this week, but we all were treated to some of his lovely flock – yes I know what that is – it’s a beautiful chicken!

Those rooster statues are everywhere – this one is a twin to the one’s up here!

Marie2020
We all miss the lovely Princess and her entourage.

Princess and her new entourage – hopefully we will see new updated photos and news.

bgmathteach
Everyone wants to send Ponypoor more chicks – did someone say Emu, good name for that chick! Enablers!

Did someone say lets get ‘broody’? Careful what you say around your chooks!

LhickenChicken
LC dropped in to say quick hi, seems she only has had one broody - so far!

Knoturavggrl
Wow those older chicks are looking gorgeous – not chicks anymore either, they are growing up.

It’s worth the drive to Meyers Hatchery Retail store - just look at the cuteness they deal in!

A formal meeting of the new chicks. Video

TX Chick Noob
The moment you realize you now have 2 roosters – and what should they eat? This sparked a whole conversation on what everyone feeds their chooks.

Sylvester017

Sylvester is quite the Artist, and a treat for Cat-urday also – thanks for sharing your lovely work.

This is such a lovely chicken haven garden, and it has a water park for them also! No wonder her chooks are always looking so happy.

Tis the season for broody hens it seems! Great video, glad others also have fun with broodies.

TOMTE
A question about different comb types led to an interesting discussion on the genetics of such combs.

Seems some construction projects are happening with many of you this year.

fuentemoon
We haven’t heard from @fuentemoon in a while hope everything is ok.

Sally PB
It’s all the talk, everyone has a broody it seems.

ChicoryBlue
Advice and information on protein levels in feed

All the new chicklettes seem to be integrating well with the older ladies, everyone sure does look wonderful!

Still some worry about Isabel’s eyes.

But they all look amazing to me – love this video.

drstratton
An update on the status the hens that were involved in the dog attack, they are doing ok and back to laying eggs – they sure are troopers!

And the Silver Laced Wyandotte ladies now have names.

Grandma The Chicken
Tony will be learning how to be a ‘house chicken' like Grandma was.

Watching scary videos is not Tony’s thing it seems though!

No more scary videos though – that’s a promise.

Ponypoor

Found another one of the Rooster statues – I love that society loves chickens enough to immortalize them.

And now for some honourable mentions for topics

Caturday

Are you enjoying your dinner Oliver? Such a pretty moggy.

And Orange Kitty is sooo pretty.

Cats, what you gonna do with them, cheeky moggy!

The cats are everywhere this week – this is lovely wee moggy so pretty!

Pony Sunday

BY Bob posted a Caturday (looks like the philistines have a friend) and a Pony Sunday, all in one post - what an awesome photo!

--------------------------------------------------

Ok everyone hope I created the links properly and didn't mess any of them up! Everyone have a glorious Weekend, catch you all later fellow chicken Hoomans!

Last night when I went to do evening chores around 9:30pm I startled a large rat that ran trying to find a hiding spot. I wasn't fast enough to clobber to critter.

How is the situation with Mr Rat on your end?
It is all out war!
Mr.Rat himself has departed (I think from my dry ice assault). However before he died, he invited friends.
They love the contraceptive sausages so the group is reasonably stable even though they are certainly partying a lot. I blush when I review the video footage! Definitely X-rated.
However, none of them are willing to go near a trap or even take any bait apart from the contraceptives.
One of them dug their way out of the Chicken Palace and emerged outside about 3’ away. So now there is a rat super highway into the Palace.
But I think the rat proof feeders are having an effect in making it less appealing to come in.
My next weapon is pepper!

Rats are just so adorable... And prolific 😆 the cute little buggers! Look at those sweet dewdrop eyes and those long whiskers... Sigh... I miss my girls.

BUT as much as I love rats, I know how much of a nuisance they can be. Good luck! Getting rid of an established colony is a war with lots of battles, and you certainly wont win all of them.

And a Legbar fluffy butt for Friday courtesy of Pooh who is once again showing off her skill with the new feeder. Note her nonchalantly draped foot - no longer clinging on for dear life!

It does look like she is only just making the stretch, unless she’s tipping her head a bit sideways and can reach further? A little hard to tell. Go girl!

It is a stretch but she is more than capable.
Piglet also though as she is playing at being a big-bad-broody she doesn’t use it so much at the moment.
I have a second feeder I am about to install to reduce the morning crowding and associated squabbling!
You have to get up before dawn to be sure of a place in line!

Hubby is allergic to rodents so we have put peppermint oil, cedar, and black pepper all over. My dog is a great mouse/chipmunk/baby rabbit hunter, I wonder if he's big enough to take on a rat?

About to go check on the outside chickens before the rain is supposed to hit...
