Hi everyone.

Just popping in for a minute. To say I am behind is a understatement. 6 days a week now for the last 2 weeks have killed me. Seeing as how we have not heard a peep from my co-worker since her daughters funeral 2 weeks ago this coming Tuesday, it will continue for a bit. Honestly our boss is now furious. She was given a week off no questions asked, but even she has not heard from her to even say she is not ready to come back to work. At this point I am not sure she even has a job to come back to. They have to do something though. I saw the orthopedic surgeon last Wednesday. Rotator cuff surgery is scheduled for August 14. He wanted to go ahead and put me off work immediately but I told him it was a bad time and I could not do that. As it is I am going to be off for a minimum of 3 months. They have 2 weeks to either hire someone else or my co-worker has to come back. My boss is looking to have someone in place by the end of the week so they can learn the ropes. She's even joked to me that she is going to install a recliner in the diner so after 2 weeks I can come back and answer the phone and run the register with one arm. I love her, I really do...but, nope. I plan on being home, turning Rosie into a slave, and having chicken therapy with my chooks. Barbosa, Calypso and Homer are my calmest when it comes to being held. Lots of tv time in the living room recliner are in order for those 3. Rosie is grumbling a bit over the slave thing. I have politely reminded her 3 years ago when she had her collar bone surgery that I was at her beck and call 24/7 while she recovered. It is time to return the favor.

I'd preferably not want perma-anchoring right now since I think we may move it in a couple years or so. Though if I could maybe stick some metal tubes to anchor it I think that'd work.
Another way to anchor it is to get some eye bolts. Drill straight through the bottom board, attach bolt with eye on the outside - use one in each corner, of coop/or one at each corner and every 4-8 feet (what you feel is needed based on wind, soil type, etc) along run and secure with a long stake. (like these) AND , as @rural mouse said, use a fence skirt around the base to prevent digging in. Then you will have a secure & secured coop/run.

(these stakes should fit through 1/2" hardware cloth, but I prefer the 1/2"x1" fencing as it comes in a heavier gauge wire - but that is just me.)

:hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugstime outside while the weather in nice will help with the recovery process. Make sure you have something sturdy to hang on to when sitting down or getting up or going up and down stairs and USE IT!!! The last thing you want is to slip on something and take a tumble. Enjoy the time with your therapy birds ;) and tame the wild hooligans.

Any news on the predator front?

Pear on a bug hunt....just had a hatch day, now 5, new coop door, bananas, and grasshoppers (favorite since the beginning when we caught grasshoppers for the babies running around the garage).

snuggle puddle (left is the blue crest, middle tailless blue cockerel, an australorp looking. An all black, and the 3rd blue little.

the other side cuddle puddle, can't tell beyond the yellow cockerel, the all black cockerel and one of the yellow pullets and PITA. She's the only mama still buk-bukking. Focus isn't bukking, but is still running with a mass of babies following her. Roosting last night had no babies with mamas. Sat night, I started tossing babies up on the roost with Focus. 6 stayed on the ground. Last night, those 6 also got put up. The rest put themselves on the roost. It currently looks like 6 cockerels out of the lot.

1st cockerel to make himself known. Pays close attention when mama calls babies for food.
