I cant really split them full time, at least not this year. I will have to reevaluate around spring time. I still have the old coop so I could just separate them for 2 weeks grab some eggs to set and then put them back together. I think that could work.
Hens can hang on to sperm (or whatever it's called in birds) for 3 weeks (some people say 5). You would need to separate for a month to collect eggs during the last week....I think....

Looking at this for next spring, there's time to 1. Do some research and possible planning and 2. Do some flockservations to see if you can catch little guy mating big ladies. (Which ladies hang out with which roos is a good indicator there).

Yes one is darker and one is lighter of the red ones.
The black and white one isn’t Polish. She is some kind of designer mix. She has feathered legs and 5 toes on each foot.
She isn’t a bantam - just really tiny right now.
They are all only half under the heat plate but fast asleep and not complaining so I guess they aren’t cold.
Strange.
Ooooh! Sounds like the Meyers Hachery Cookies and Cream! Thing 2 with feathered feet and able to see without a trim!

Just hatched today. In quarantine in my bathroom for a few days to give the Marek’s shot a chance to work and then I will try and persuade Tassels to adopt them.
That little one does have a poof and I am a tad worried as it looks very large so I hope it isn’t a vaulted skull issue. She is also much smaller than the others and seems to be a bit of a bully!
There is almost no choice of day-old chicks right now - I think the hatcheries over hatched earlier in the year and have slowed down until September. Lots of older chicks available but no little-uns.
I am trying not to get too attached because statistically I will lose at least one of them to Marek’s before adulthood (unless Tassels turns killer before that), but of course it took only one rest stop for water for me to become besotted!

I am so excited for you! They are perfectly precious.

You are good!
Yes, that is exactly what she is. And yes, she has a black spot on her head. She is also quite feisty.

The white spot on the dark red one next to her.....hmmmmm don't tell me. Let me go browse the Meyer's site, see if I can figure this out. Light red looks like maybe has cheeks.....other is a chipmunk? What color legs?

I will examine legs in the morning and try to get individual pictures. The lighting isn’t great in my bathroom but will do my best if they cooperate!
