P1 - yes good veining

P2 - yes, hard to see veining, this was the first one I candled, light wasn’t as strong.

P3 - questionable, and see some ‘lines’ could be veins, could be egg colour making it hard to see adequately.

S2 - yes another eggcellent example

And now the question, what does everyone think the eggs are?

I went out and sat with the silkies for a bit yesterday. With everything that needed done I really did not have the hour and a half to kill in that pen, but, I've missed my chooks. I can now say it is official, only 1 will hatch, all 5 momma's were off with the chick when I came in. I quickly candled the remaining 2 eggs and they were clears so I tossed them. I simply sat out there observing. I'm cautiously optimistic 5 mommas and 1 chick will turn out ok. It can go under any of the girls when it wants, they all are trying to show it food and water. My poor teens, they stay far away from wherever that group is. If they get close 2 of the momma's break off and chase them. I placed chick starter in several different locations for it. The momma's ignore that and have it eating something out of the feeder with the henhouse reserve feed. That and bugs and worms. If the gang get near one of the spots with the chick starter it will eat it for a second so there is that. It is vigorous and healthy and 5 days old yesterday when I took that video. If it can just make it to tomorrow at a week old it's odds for survival increase drastically. Rosie will be my eye's and ears in that pen for the next couple days. I do not figure I will be up to going out there the first few days so she has been given her list of chores that MUST be done.

I managed to get 2 video's before my camera's battery died. I suspect this one could be a Poppet baby. I also suspect based on coloring that it might be a silver partridge like she is.
OMG! That’s amazing! Two I have heard and now have, but 5 broody ladies?! That is so wonderful! Those silkies are such good mamas!

Those of you with chicks, how do you not spend all day watching them. I may be retired and therefore am lucky enough to have flexibility, but I have chores to do!
I can’t just waste hours watching them.
And yet here I am!

Ya…. Blooming little time thieves! Thankfully I have today off, I have someone coming to haul away my manure pile. But I need to get moving! I need to stop watching chicks!

I need to move this bunch - it’s too warm in there with all of them.

I was hoping that my remaining broody ladies ((Piglet and Sylvie) would snap out of it when they heard chicks and maybe try to take them over.
Seems it has just made them even more determined to try for chicks if their own.

Seeing as how I spent a hour and a half outside yesterday just sitting and doing nothing which I did not have time for. The answer is simply this. You don't. Chickens are time thieves, chicks are even more so. Be it your first time watching a broody momma with her babies, or the 100th time and 5 momma's to 1 chick, you only have 1 option. You sit, you watch and soak in every precious moment, sight, and sound of your girls and their chicks. Those chores can wait.

If anyone else goes broody here I will freak out!

A New Home Base

The Phyllistines have been going to bed in their coop like they should for a while now. That is until last night.

After entering the big coop again yesterday I think they decided they would like to roost with us now at night.

That is the kitchen window behind them.

It is a long walk with 2 chickens perched in your arm, from the house, around the pool, and into their coop.

😊👍

Unfortunately though the dump truck and front end loader operators likely aren’t as forward thinking hahaha.
