Tolkien was right. White (light) contains all the colors.

Stormy, whose comb and wattles are reflecting not-cyan (aka, red) light to my phone camera.

I'm not familiar with Buckeyes specifically but this kind of patterning on chick feathers is pretty common for birds that will end up all or mostly solid coloured. RIR chick feathers often look like this.
Oh! I didn’t know that. Thank you.
This is Geronimo. She is also getting some patterns, but different. That is a brick she is next to - so you can see she is still very tiny.

I hope they can get a friend for the duck. Do you have any idea what breed it is? Some ducks are illegal to possess unless marked that they were bred in captivity.
@bgmathteach You have mother ducks, right? The reason I ask is because I learned that if you don’t have a mother duck to waterproof the ducklings, they should get very limited swimming time until they are 5-6 weeks old. Otherwise they can get waterlogged and drown or catch a chill. Because their oil glands aren’t developed yet. It is recommended to make sure their swimming water is warm, not leave them in too long or unsupervised, and dry them off afterwards making sure they have a warm brooder waiting.

Ours have gotten really big, they are almost 20 weeks old. Two will now charge up to eat from our hand, including the drake. The other two are more hesitant but will sometimes snatch a few BSFL from our hands. They love getting time out in the garden to hunt bugs (it is almost totally overgrown now, lol.

My little “bell bottoms” are getting really beautiful. This picture doesn’t even begin to do their feet justice.

yeah, said duckling is a mallard. I'm not exactly sure on the legality of raising it since it was hatched in the wild. I do know many people locally have and raise mallards around here.

My luck, raising that duckling is illegal and if anyone would get in trouble for it I would be the one. Another big reason I decided against bringing it home. Now as far as getting the duckling a friend, I give it a month and she will have at least one more duck and a entirely new enclosure built for the ducks. Betty is just like that. She started with 1 goat someone gave her, that quickly rose to I think she has 15 now counting this years babies. Last fall she caught the other Rooster who was dropped off at the barn. He needed friends and I gave her Karen and someone else gave her a black hen around the same time. Well, Karen hatched 2 chicks that she kept, she got 4 silkies from me and now the chickens have a palace and she has 12 total. All that along with 15 horses and 1 donkey in the barn and she is not sure of the number of cats she is feeding. Howard the duck may no longer be a wild duck, but, he is definitely in good hands so to speak.
