I absolutely love the stories of y'all/s flocks. I am new at raising.
Only a year. Our place has lots of eagles and hawks so I keep mine in on our house patio at night but they are outside during the day on a 22' x 40' grassy area with 50% shade netting over the area.
We lost one chick in less than 24 hours a year ago but since that day keep real close tabs on them. They originally were out by our horse barn. Too far away. Loss the chick to an owl who just stuck its claw in the 2 inch gap on the cage which was 8 x 10. Decided next to our home was best. Going to build a real coop this fall. We have grown to love our rooster and hen. Our hen is a buff orphington and our rooster was found in a parking lot. Skinny and all. Took him home right away. Want to become better at raising and taking care of our feathered kids. Been real hot in Florida but they love the fans, fresh water daily and treats, raisins, watermelon, strawberries and their usual feed. They come into patio every night at 8pm like clockwork.
Thank you for reading and thank you for sharing your stories.
I want to name our place Heavenly Hens.

Hi Kathleen! Welcome! We love hearing about everyone’s chooks, and love seeing photos too!

I am reading backwards so I have already seen your photos - your chooks are lovely! And yes your Roo is gorgeous.

I love hanging out with the girls in their pen. It's peaceful and pretty with all of them running around! 💗

That’s what a am doing, sitting here on my lawnchair, watching mama Whiskers and her babies, Dorothy spent a long time with her and the wee ones, just digging beside Whiskers and watching the babies. She better not go broody or I’ll scream!

He lost a lot of feathers off his butt. I rescued him, again, from the dog's mouth. Cleaned up is wounds and put medicine on his lower back. It is all grown back now with his adult plumage:love. He thinks he's hot

Yep he’s hot stuff!

I have a fondness for barred patterns (cuckoo is the term often used for that pattern), at first I thought he might be a Dominique, but his stance is more that of a game bird.

Rebekah is beautiful, love her floppy comb and wattles!

Time well spent! 💗
Now that she has a good taste of motherhood, she may never give it up...😁
