You three are terrible enablers! I found myself actually considering keeping him. This is NOT what I planned!
If this is what happens you will have to guide me. I am already worried as I have not got close to the Littles. Mostly that is because they belong to Tassels and though she is reasonably chill about me being around it isn't like she approves of me trying to pick them up and most of the day she has them deep in the bushes where I couldn't reach them anyway.
Do I need to start trying to get them to like me? Or won't that make any difference to any relationship with a roo in the long term? It isn't like any of mine are lap chickens.
I can't believe I am even considering this!

1. It's fine. Taming doesn't happen until mama is done. Just as @RebeccaBoyd how things worked with Momma Hen, Aka Evil Ol' Bat. Until mama Tassels turns them loose, they're HER babies.

2. Read Shad's article on Understanding Your Rooster. Bookmark it and return to it periodically. Don't sweat what you don't have to. When in doubt, more observation, ask questions, ponder, ask more questions, do more observation. Unless blood is flowing, there's usually time to think.

3. Chippy is still in wait and see time, and Sussex tend to be pretty chill as a whole breed characteristic. (Even broody)

4. The Palace needs a King/Czar/Emperor/Monarch. I have LOTS of name ideas if they prove needed.

Comb trivia:
Buttercup combs do look like circular crowns... but an actual chicken Crown or Carnation comb doesn't look like an actual crown the way Buttercup combs do.

Male chickens have upright carnation combs. Females have carnation combs that fall on their sides. Penedesenca and Emprodanesa chickens are the only chicken breeds that have carnation combs.

Yes. That is in part why I had planned not to have a rooster.
But of course to plan not to have a rooster and to get rid of one you happen to end up with are different things.
I will be flooding the zone with Chippy pictures for a few weeks it seems to try and figure out what I have!
