I need to chipper up, maybe splash some battery acid on my face (kidding) I have a lunch appointment with the mayor today, to discuss the possibility of my northern property to be sold to for re-zoning “benefiting the whole county” :D I’m not using it anyways.
OK... but only if they still allow chickens after the re-zoning!!!

Red and Gertrude are just sitting on the outside of the run, spending time with their friends and Riddick. Was it a mistake to move them out? They really want back in with the run-dwellers...
I’d let them sort themselves, and go with that. Then again, alliances and friendships evolve. What’s the reason for the separation, space considerations?

We used a roll of plastic green fencing to make an area for our girls to forage while I kept them out of the yard where I was working. Of course they wanted ALL the space they were used to but I needed to shut them off temporarily from my work space. I think you've used this plastic fencing in your yard before? We've been working on our yard for 14 yrs & w/ chickens it's forever evolving as new needs come up.

Omlet chicken products has a nifty portable chicken fencing but it was more $$$ than we cared to spend for something temporary & probably not as durable as the sturdier cattle/deer fencing we finally invested in.

Their fencing is plastic and nothing special; the posts are quality metal. The posts require assembly and that’s a pain (they use the push-button, slide on method and the buttons are very stiff and it’s difficult to slide the parts together.

Ascities

Poor Marty has been wattling around for a week now, she is not feeling very well.

I drained about 40ml of fluid from her abdomen, and she continues to leak which is good. Even now her abdomen has shrank down, thankfully.

After I gave her some Sulphatrim to ward off any infection and to help her heal. I may give her some Tylenol tonight to help her feel more comfortable. She has worried me for a couple yrs now since she started laying those soft eggs.

Anyways I found a very good article on Ascitis in Poultry:

Poor sweetie, I never imagined a Silkie w/ascitis. I hate the prognosis for it too🙁
Awww - poor Marty.

Sorry everyone. It's not pony Sunday but I really have to share about Nancy.
While I was away. She stayed with my friend. She had all of her comforts with her. Including a pillow and blanket we cuddled up on for the scent.
Her pig pig, was amongst her belongings. She loved playing with this.

My friend called me a few day's after I left laughing uncontrollably. He said Nancy was crying and making snorting noises.

He cuddled her up and asked what was wrong. She ran off and brought her pig back to his feet, standing pig pig on it's feet and looks at him again making the snorting noise looking at him sadly. He did everything to cheer her up so took her for a walk and gave her treats.
I had another pig, so when I got home she had this one. And again the honk has broken but she still treasures this one anyway.

Last night, she gently placed this little pig on her outside bed that I keep in the living room, before going fast asleep in her own bed.

Here she is again this time with her little pig pig.
I'm so very pleased Nancy and I found each other, she really is an absolute joy!

Some pups are really true joys... DH was gone for 2 weeks puppysitting DD/SILs dogs & DH took a video of Quincy nudging his hand to scratch her chest. I couldn't wait for Pony Sunday

Matilda tried sleeping out again...this time she perched in the Russian Olive just outside the door

and was a pain to get to...wouldn't step BOTH feet onto a branch...inserted from any direction....had to slide though the branches (getting my hair tangled in the VERY prickly currant family bush next to it), dodging the 1-2 inch long thorns in the tree itself....slid 1 finger under 1 foot, started on the other with another finger when she fully stepped onto my hand.....only to try to flip her over with a small branch under her chin when I tried to lower her (didn't see the branch in the shadows)....and have her jump when I tried to add my other hand for stability....right into the prickly bush....from whence she scrambled out....the other side....and around the far side of the coop. I grabbed the lantern and ducked around the opposite way, dodging Castor, who had followed Bijou (takes his kitten sitting duties seriously don't he), who had followed me and was frolicking on the open side of the coop. Thankfully she stayed there (her color makes her VANISH when you're looking directly at her). Matilda was loitering around the old hatch when I rounded the coop....to scoot back around the other way (door still open). I ducked back the way I came (Bijou, please stay out of the coop, please stay out of the coop) to find Matilda scrambling up the triangle ramp/stairs inside. Closed the door....AFTER ascertaining the whereabouts of both kitties....who escorted me back to the house....Bijou trying to trip me by POOFING up right in front of me. It's a good thing I didn't try to gather eggs tonight. They'd have gone flying if I didn't land on them first.
