Good Sunday morning all - it's a cold one here again this morning - the poor chooks were not happy to come out of the hen house where
it was warmer. Time to close up those big windows and just use the smaller windows for ventilation.

@ChicoryBlue do you still have one of the young crew needing a name? With your musical interest, what about Dulcimer or some other semi-obscure instrument?

I have names for two of the five. Lizabel/Isabel and Shehnai for the "sleepy" pullet and the roo are pretty set. The others are working names.

The three working names are Picabo, Beedles and Olive. Ideas welcome!

"Beedles" came to me on several separate days, so I keep calling her that, but I have no idea what that word means or is! It's not very pretty, it sounds so close to "Beatles" and reminds me of "Beetlejuice". I could use another name, but I do like the beginning part. Maybe Beatrice / Bea?

She and Picabo both approach me seemingly together, I get among everybody and see these two right up front. Facial features are getting more pronounced and at this point the only way I can differentiate the three. Beedles and picabo are very interested / friendly / curious, and aren't afraid to explore and lightly peck/pull threads on my clothes or hair, etc.; they have been that way since chicks.

They both easily step back on to my hand and like it well enough to stay, or don't usually see a pressing need to jump off unless it's a frisky situation or something else grabs their attention. Relatively bold, very active and yet overall pretty calm, classic Buckeye. The Buff Orpingtons, other than Diane, are snuggle-buddy lap chickens and positively Buddha-like in comparison. Anyway, Beedles is particularly forward with her head / beak near me, stretching her neck, examining everything very closely. When she does that she puts on a real beady-eyes look! Thus the name...

I'm not attached to the name "Picabo". I don't like that I fall into saying Picaboo in pronouncing it, but the first part fits, like Peeky or something, just the end doesn't. Maybe Piccolo? Just thought of that! Fits with the musical instrument ideas.

"Olive" is the newest name. She has a steady gaze. Her eyes are very centered in her eye rims (the skin of the "orbital ring"?) and the rims have a perfect almond shape.

Very hard to get close pictures of this gang, will try to get some.

Most of these are iffy, but the video imbeds for what they sound like are fascinating...and a few are very viable as names if you want to stick with the instrument theme (Ocarina, Janzen for the inventor of the hydro thing, Erhu...)

Sunday morning coffee on the porch with Pups. Chickens all came by for their morning ration of mealworms (one scoop scattered for all 15). All of sudden Pups is off like a shot into the lemons. Coyote! Chased it off like a pro. There’s some tasty treat in her future.

Of course now I’m freaking out that the coyote got a taste of Beaky and now wants more. We will have to vigilant, but tomorrow is a work day. I hope we don’t have heartbreak in our future.

Do it!!!!! Breeding pair, even with cockerels, should sell straight run chicks/hatching eggs REALLY well!!! And they're young. Mr P will educate well
