If I didn’t care, why would I even think to rename my SkyHawk airplane after you? Many people here ask me who’s Marie? I only let them guess. Your integrity is my special special secret place deep in my heart!
For Nancy you and the lovely people in this thread

Good morning all

No thirsty Thursday photos yet, but here is a semi drowned rat…. Poor Clyde! All his fluffy feathers were straightened out from the rain.

Doesn’t he look like a different chook there?!

Not to worry a few hrs later and he was back to his fluffy self. And super soft feathers from the washing hen received with the rain water.
Rain water is supposed to be like fluffy fabric softener... however in our dirty SoCalif air the rain water just brings down the filth from our air...🫤

Oh yes. And I have an oil well, a big ol white house with two wings, and a cattle ranch. I eat steak 24/7 and drive a pink Cadillac convertible with long horns for a hood ornament. 🤣
Sounds to me like you have the talent to sell someone the Golden Gate Bridge or Florida swamplands too...

Rather than a thirsty butt, a semi-naked moulty buttView attachment 4222080Cheetah's tattered flag broke off yesterday. Poor guy is miserable. Hiding on the ground away from the rest while valiantly trying to look out for the little ones. About every 3rd day he sleeps alone. He's not the only rumpled miserable adult. Several if the ladies are stand off-ish too...and just as rumpled. No 'nekkid" birds yet, but lots of pincushions hidden under a thin layer of feathers.
I can’t help feeling nature could have come up with a better approach than this molting thing. It just seems like such a miserable thing to go through!

Confirmation... Riddick must be fertile?! I wonder if any of the chicks will sprout gold necklaces like Delft's?
Wouldn't that be beautiful? I can tell which kid is her egg because it has fuzzy legs. I hope hope hope it's a girl and she has her mother's beauty (and father's wonderful fibro!)

...or shedding dogs or shedding cats or shedding trees or balding humans...
Those don’t seem anywhere near as traumatic.
In fact I think my black cats delight in shedding on white pants. They always look particularly pleased with themselves when they do that!

What a miserable day it was, and became even more so when I got home. It started thundering and then the rain came - torrents of it. I may as well have been in the Caribbean - we have this soupy humid tropical airmass settled here and along with the lovely warm weather it’s very humid. And this is the third day of heavy torrential rains.

Needless to say the chooks were soaked from being caught out in the rain, and sure didn’t spend much time outside. Everyone was fighting and scrapping because they all wanted to go outside but it was pouring rain.

Misty has been sitting in the nestbox past few days - not sure if she thinks she is broody or what. She sure isn’t talking broody talk, or pancake flattening out.

Anyways Raven got it into her head that Misty needed to come out of the nestbox so she HAULED Misty out of the box. WELL! That started a huge brawl between the two of them, I didn’t want to stop it, as they need to work it out themselves, but Raven just wouldn’t back down even though Misty was winning.

Misty repeatedly ninja kicked her, and grabbed her by the comb and wattles, I finally had to break it up and I herded Raven away. Her comb is torn, and her eyelid is damaged. She is too old for that crap - what was she thinking?!

Anyways I put some antibiotic eye ointment on her eye and cheek that was torn, I’ll put some polysporin on her comb in a bit, and I’ll give her some tylenol when I go out in a bit. Poor old girl, she is her own worse enemy.

Then a few of the others got into a fight, the Roos were freaking out. Those girls are vicious, I don’t want poor Clyde hurt. Mr LC is fast enough and can fly away. Clyde though can only run, which he did at one point. I scooped him up and rescued him. Sheesh those hens are cranky!

The poor Noirans chicks were also on the receiving end of some pecks, Marty got into it with Cash…. So I had to rescue Marty. Who was absolutely soaked, dried her off and gave her dose of sulphatrim. She’s doing better but she needs more weight.

Ok so the Polish chicklets are doing good. I started the second chick on sulphatrim also last night- I was worried she seem a bit down. Tonight I noted their crops were full thank goodness. The first chick is no longer wheezing or coughing and seems to be breathing fine. She hasn’t had any Tylenol since Tuesday morning. Both are eating and drinking. Thank goodness! But I still feel incredibly guilty about the other two chicks and I wish I had got buddy’s number so I could call and get the other two. I am sure he won’t help them if they are sick 😢😢😢😢

I am handling them both twice a day, I do this last thing after I deal with the main gang. They are dear sweet little things.

Ok this is a super long post - sorry all needed to vent.

Here are a couple sweet photos of Whiskers and her wee chickie poos.

Silly babies 😊♥️ I am sure that white one is a Roo!
Can you check Misty? If not broody, why is she hanging in the nesting box? That could be a reason for an attack too, being “off” don’t you think?

That being said, I thought everybody here was also feeling cranky, maybe due to the barometric pressure and weather change. There was way more chasing and pushing around than usual, especially of Poor Mr. Shehnai who was at one point standing out in the rain under the tall goldenrod, trying to stay dry I think by standing very upright, head pointed up too.
