In the great blueberry wars of 2025, there are few losers but one clear victor. Unfortunately he has very bad manners!
Mr. Chips will take blueberries from my hand without hesitation. He will also take them from Tassels. That is OK, both of us are happy for him to have them.
However, he will also snatch them out of the beaks of any other chicken that scores a blueberry. This earned him lots of blueberries as well as some bad tempered pecks from Calypso.
Mr. Chips may be a boy, but he is certainly no gentleman!
I hope this doesn't bode ill for what is to come.

Well Shenai has been chasing and dominating every other young Buckeye since the day he arrived, practically. Plus in the Way of the Chicken, all niceties go out the window when there's a blueberry involved!

It is true that little Cookie scored a blueberry by taking it from Mr. Chips and flying (yes flying) away with it.

Hawk attack this morning! Cooper's hawk, and the netting foiled it. Saw it from the house only as it was rising up above the tripod from this relatively exposed area to perch in a tree. This is where I've been working to level it and make good rain drainage, the coops are going here for winter.

He's still a baby! Those hormones haven't kicked in yet, that's when he'll learn, if you want to get the girls attention, you have to tidbit for them...lol

Hope you are right! With the number of blueberries he ate he is about to become a very big boy with I suspect big blue poops.
I mean it wasn't like he was starving when I went out with the blueberries. He remains absolutely glued to Tassels' side - it is fascinating how much more attached to her he is than the others are now. Don't get me wrong, they all follow her command, but they wander further from her in their adventures.

Some sad news -

Roxy passed, no sign of any predation, we found her in the coop. She had that odd neurological thing when she was a very tiny chick though but it cleared up after just a few days. I thought she had overcome that challenge but apparently not something was just not right.

Deep heavy sighhhh, how is it always those you are the most attached to that leave far to soon.
