Maybe Laverne is picking on Clyde's feathers like she is w/ Mr P?A warming spot is really needed with him in the winter, he really doesn’t like the cold.
But go figure Fluffy, Curly and Betty are fine. Clyde just seems to have less density in his feathers, Fluffy is just really thick feathers, even Curly and Betty. I wonder if it’s a Roo thing with the frizzle silkie feathers.
TY for sharing your roo experience since we were never able to keep oursI can’t seem to get a good picture but Mr. Chips is developing bright green feathers in his tail and some around his shoulders.
They are much brighter green than these picture show.

I am still getting my mind around the whole rooster thing, but there is no denying he is a good looking fella.

She's in the UK.Are you in the States or elsewhere? No need to say where exactly but a continent ID would help most of us![]()
Took Coco back to the coop, she didn’t mind at all, but then I saw poor Nacho trying to babysit her one and only chick. Her eye has been pecked out in a fight.I decided to bring them both inside. Mama and baby are now resting comfortably on my bed with me. I can’t believe chickens can be so cruel as to peck an opponents eye out. This little one is just way cute!
On the other hand; I can’t find the other two missing chicks anywhere on my side of the fence.
I hope Nacho and her un-named baby enjoy John Denver music, because that’s what I prefer today.
Speaking about food... I read somewhere not to feed chickens cooked rice late in the day cuz it's a heavy meal for roost time. I'm guessing that even cooked rice continues absorbing juices & moisture & that might not be good in an overnight crop robbing the bird of its body water? I should stop rabbit-holing chicken articlesDoesn’t matter how old I get, my beautiful chooks love me. Case in point: Coco doesn’t mind a bit sharing lunch with me and now we’re going to snuggle and nap for a while. Lunch was beef Alfredo and string cheese. I hope she never asks me “do my feathers make me look fat?”
TY Marie... she sounded so sweet. Phones are the pits... prayers that all will be wellShe's in the UK.
I'm answering for her because she's away from her home for a week with a new and dodgy phone.
She was hoping too add pictures after arrival to her destination but we've had a rather big storm here and my phone dodgy phone has been losing signal all day.
I couldn't send another friend of mine a text last night either. I was worried about her driving in that storm.
Thank goodness that particular friend managed too get home and got a text through to me.

Well now, those big whales are curious and don’t know their size, they’ve been known to bump and flip small boats!
Peekaboo
This one likes to hide in the long grass

And that’s a great name for her!
If you have Amazon maybe get Missing Link to sprinkle into feed or some other available feather enhancer online? Since we started using we haven't had a bald bird since. We just noticed Silkie Suzu today had new follicle shells in her crest & body fluff yet never showed any baldness anywhere... same w/ regular feathered Dominique Dana. The feather enhancer really has made a difference & their appetite didn't stop drastically during moult like before. For 6 birds we just sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon over the wet treat food ~ corn, peas, chopped tomato, whatever they like. DH says he does it every other day.No feather fixer up here. We only get basic layer (crumb or shortcut pellet oh and textured), and starter and grower. About 4 different manufacturers ie: Purina, Sharpes, Master Feeds, and another. Remember we don’t have to same number of people up here with chooks
It’s economics 101 supply and demand. But it’s nice to see more municipalities allowing hens to be kept in town. I know the local town here has a petition out for keeping 5 hens - we’ll see how that goes…
