Roosting tonight was chaos
Pure, unmitigated chaos!
I tried not to watch but I could hear Cookie's distress calls from inside the house so out I went. I think I can safely say that Cookie is 'directionally challenged'. She can see just fine since I took the scissors to her - and all day she has been fluttering around up at the top of the butterfly bush and having attacks of the zoomies. She can see, she can jump, she can run and she can fly and land in a sensible place.
What she cannot do is remember where the door to the Chicken Palace is located. So while everyone else was milling around in the run and coop and considering roosting - she was 'stuck' outside. Tassels came out twice to call her in, but she couldn't figure out how to get to Tassels. In the end I herded her in with a broom.
But that was simply the start of the night's fun.
Cookie managed to find the blue stairs and go into the coop just fine once I had 'swept' her into the run. There she proceeded to roost on the main roost. Geronimo joined her. Then so did the other two.
Tassels came in and took her favorite spot and for a while it looked like the little family would all roost together on the main roost.
But then Calypso arrived and all hell broke out.
The end result is Tassels in her favorite spot without her babies.
Calypso in the number two spot - she tried to unseat Tassels but that didn't go so well.
Pooh and Sylvie have retreated to another, more peaceful roost.
Piglet is next to Calypso on the main roost.
Where are the babies? Why, in the cardboard box of course! Tassels did not encourage it - in fact she was very happy having them roost next to her. I think it was Mr. Chips or maybe Geronimo who led the little group into the box after Calypso attacked them.
And no, I did not remove the box. I couldn't think why I would do so if they like it. I am sure they will roost eventually. I did remove the half of it that the big girls were using to lay eggs, but I left the part that the Littles sleep in.

I am emotionally drained by all the drama, but in the middle of it all I was told a name.
Meet Nutmeg. I have no idea why she is called Nutmeg, but she assures me that is her name. Like Mr. Chips she is accomplished with the rat proof feeder.

Mayhem. Just pure madness!
Gizmo is fighting Rooster Cogburn for supremacy over nothing. I saw hackles flairing, fancy kick boxing, and Mr Wyandottey step in several times to stop the idiots. When He gets involved, the other Roos scatter, but then start fighting again somewhere else. I even stepped in to stop those two.
They will fight until they are both exhausted.

Now for a large bite of good news.
I found Dakota back in the coop just now. I guess she was hiding after dark last night, or possibly partying with the rooster next door. :old :idunno Anyway, I’m happy to have her back home safe. No scent of corn mash alcohol on her beakbreath. 👮‍♂️
Oh this news has made my day! So glad! :wee:wee

And reminds me we haven’t seen @GregnLety in quite a while.
Hope they are doing OK.

Have heard, and doing ok.

In case I owe SHRA, I am posting my tax now. I am hopelessly behind myself what with work issues, chronic tiredness, and treating ill chooks.

I think this is Misty and Whiskers - yes it's them, preening

Thanks, Pony. I haven't realized that her beard is that bad. I haven't done anything to it, not even brushing it. Perhaps it's the side photo that makes it look that way. If I get a photo of the front, maybe it will look a bit different.

Oh dear - no you misunderstood - your girl has a magnificent beard and muff.

My gal named Chickie-chick is the one missing her beard - in fact she is now completely bald on her beard! Someone has over groomed her and plucked all her beard feather out! and most of her muff also - poor chickie!

Before she was plucked she looked just like your beauty
♥️

Hey yall 😁. Still alive but it's been a challenge. I can highly recommend not getting salmonella. I seriously thought I was going to die. For 18 days I couldn't keep any food or liquids in me. Took my entire April from me. Lost a chunk of my ear to melanoma and have a couple procedures coming up. In between that I still work as much as possible. I pray that all my terrific friends here are doing well. 🍻

Awesome to hear from you - yep Sam and Ella are an evil pair, do you know how you contracted it? It's usually food borne illness but can be contracted other ways too. Gosh and your ear - well I guess better than your nose!

How are the chooks - is Lety still hatching out babies?

So sorry... but I'm really really bummed today... found out a good friend passed away. He had been President of the Union Rescue Mission on skid row in the '90's... but more than that... he was our neighbor one street away, his kids & mine were all in school together, did activities together, & ultimately he officiated at my DD's wedding & his DD was her bridesmaid. He was the sweetest gentlest human being I'd ever known. So so hard to lose a beautiful family friend 💔
