In Newfoundland they plant plums (damsons) and apples trees in the lee of a house to shelter them from the wind. Like where you are its exposed to the Atlantic and has no real trees, it's very extreme there. My family's home town:

So sorry... but I'm really really bummed today... found out a good friend passed away. He had been President of the Union Rescue Mission on skid row in the '90's... but more than that... he was our neighbor one street away, his kids & mine were all in school together, did activities together, & ultimately he officiated at my DD's wedding & his DD was her bridesmaid. He was the sweetest gentlest human being I'd ever known. So so hard to lose a beautiful family friend

Awesome to hear from you - yep Sam and Ella are an evil pair, do you know how you contracted it? It's usually food borne illness but can be contracted other ways too. Gosh and your ear - well I guess better than your nose!

How are the chooks - is Lety still hatching out babies?

I caught it on a Pemex offshore rig. Nastiest place I've ever resided on. I'll never go offshore Mexico again, told my boss to not even call me.. a month after I got sick, a coworker went to the same rig and caught the same crap

Mayhem. Just pure madness!
Gizmo is fighting Rooster Cogburn for supremacy over nothing. I saw hackles flairing, fancy kick boxing, and Mr Wyandottey step in several times to stop the idiots. When He gets involved, the other Roos scatter, but then start fighting again somewhere else. I even stepped in to stop those two.
They will fight until they are both exhausted.

I guess it's a fact we know what they were being raised for... fighting is in their genes

Outside of a climbing rose bush already on the property we never planted any bushes, flowers, or trees that might be harmful to chickens. I know Oleander is deathly toxic if ingested but other than that I'm no expert.
