Rognvald is still a few days short of 9 weeks old and already close enough in size with the Hylines that I can't always tell them apart when I first see a reddish chicken out of the corner of my eye!

I wish rodents weren't so destructive chewing cuz they're kinda cute but unfortunately the non-pet wild ones carry fleas, ticks, viruses, & some are so huge they can maim/kill chickens/chicks. W/ 300+ rat species around the world they can be tiny species to huge species chonkers! I also learned a lot watching the various Mink Man youtube video's on how his trained mink & dogs work in tandem to catch vermin.

Do you need me to remind you to set your traps every night ?

I rarely get a good sleep, my RLS keeps me up at night. The barn cams entertain me some, and this week I have fallen down the rabbit hole re: Mycoplasmosis vaccine. There is a lot of data out there which is actually really interesting. Like that one article on the status of backyard flocks here.

I know, huh! Looks are deceiving ~ We thought Silkies would be timid delicate little wallflowers... but trust me... they are ALL chicken & even moreso than some bigger breeds we've had.

It really says something when one has a breed impressive enough to get more again like RebeccaBoyd. Anyone who gets Silkies will be surprised how industrious & useful they are... plus they've been our only breed to lay thru all 4 seasons of the year.

What's impressive about Ponypoor's Silkies is how clean & bright her white ones maintain themselves & how Clyde the Brave fought w/ a hawk! When a hawk alarm goes out our Silkies disappear faster than the Dominique who freezes & hugs my leg instead .

We discovered they aren't ornaments... they are useful little garden mates w/ great compatibility

Caught this just before heading to town after the rain (it finally opened up and soaked the ground).

Arabel, Matilda, and Koonj look tiny compared to the others....even Mortimer has shot up.
