By the way, Tedi and Annie are serious snuggle-hounds. Despite Tedi's hard moult underway she wants to be hugged on my lap. Diane's fear-based aggression is one thing, but I would NOT say the larger breeds are in general somehow meaner! @Sylvester017
We've had many mellow lap-snuggly large breeds but a couple snuggle-bugs nevertheless were merciless bullies toward Silkies. One must be wise about mix & matching bantams & standard layers in a flock.

Good advice we received yrs ago was a large property works for a mixed flock where gentles have plenty of room to stay away from aggressive breeds. In smaller properties or confined runs its best not to mix bantams/gentler reputation breeds w/ bolder/larger, or aggressive reputation breeds.

I was raised on a farm where my only experience had been wonderful White Leghorns (Babcock line I think folks said), so I was unaware of temperament differences in other chicken breeds. It was quite an eye-opener for us to find such diversity in breeds when we started our small confined backyard flock 14+ yrs ago when mixing breeds. There are flighty breeds, fighting game breeds, bantam breeds, small gentle temperament breeds, giant gentle temperament breeds, aloof breeds, & then we discovered even those reputations had rogues in it that didn't fit the description! & then we discovered/experienced many health issues to confront w/poultry!

We wouldn't trade a minute of it cuz having BYC has been the best help thru it all 💕

Turkeys could bring gapeworm in. Good to protect them from the respiratory illness on your premises but they might trade you for a parasite!
Ive always wanted to take a vacation in parasite, but I never got around to it. The Bahamas would be parasite for me! (Just saying)

I am a day late for pony or shrimpy Sunday but it's not my fault, blame the babies.

Woke up this morning to baby snails everywhere and more hatching as we speak. It took them 2 weeks and 2 days to start hatching.
Sounds familiar... I had a tank overrun from ONE snail !!!

I need to remind you that Sir Jaffar was a Bantam (rest in peace sir honored and beloved pet) he was vicious, a true warrior despite his small stature, he was brave and magnificent until the very end.
