It's so cute to watch them too! Our Silkies sometimes disappear in their dustbath holes & all we see is no bird ~ just dirt flying out of a hole!

Lately they graduated from the sandbox to using our raised garden bed which we let them use to direct deposit their fertilizer 😁:
Yeah chickens are so fun to watch. ❤️

Great ideas here, thanks!

I have a couple of these camo leafy blinds that have worked really well for the dappled leaf hide. But they aren’t very UV resistant, and haven’t lasted, in two years the material has gotten pretty beat and nylon threads are coming out of the “leaves”. Not available right now on Amazon. The chickens really liked hanging out under it, it let air move and provided shade too.

W/ the Congressional shutdown many dock workers are not unloading container goods. My DD says its hurting her business getting imported goods right now. We can't get the popup canopy brand we like for the chicken yard either 🙁

Do you have any tips for dealing with winter/cold weather. I'm in michigan and it's starting to get cold around here. This will be my first winter keeping chickens so I'm a bit worried.

@SimpleJenn is in MI ~ she may be familiar w/ your zone. PM (BYC private msg) her for tips.

So happy to see Niamh is doing better!

No one is really thirsty this Thursday after the amount of rain we've been getting. A neighbour brought over some giant, slightly slug-chewed cucumbers that'd been growing out of sight but no one was all that interested after a quick peck. They would've gone down a treat in what passes for summer here.

Chickens aren't dumb... they know overgrown cukes are not tasty, even bitter! Our chickens won't eat gooey slugs either!!!

Yeah she's the favorite of my whole family!
Its also incredibly impressive that she's able to stand ON ONE LEG AND SCRATCH HER FACE!!!
It's truly something you need to see to believe.
Standing on one leg, isn’t allowed on my farm. My rule is “both chickens feets, planted firmly on the ground, unless walking!”

These ones weren't, they were still really sweet. I ate some of the non-sluggy end of one and you could smell the sweetness off them when I broke them open.

Some of mine eat slugs; some don't. Some are very particular and only seem to like certain species.

But you keep Marie at 3K feet, no:idunno?
Good you caught that. Yes my ceiling is usually 3000ft unless I’m cautioned to deviate from that cruising altitude, to avoid other aircraft. You can be my copilot anytime! You are very observant.:hugs
