Oh no. I’m sorry, Kelly.
She’s been sickly since she came here and now she moulting badly. I am thinking this is her issue, but we shall see.

Tonight she expelled a whole load of fluid and gunk when I was handling her. I gave her some water via a feeding tube and this again caused her to expel a whole load of fluid and grains. I need to
Get a bigger feeding tube so I can clear her crop better.

At that point I just returned her to her crate, she ate some soaked feed and water, but I noted she was still expelling fluids.

I gave her some Ducosate sodium to see if there is something that needs to be broken up, and I might worm her in the morning if the crop hasn’t reduced, maybe she has some internal parasites causing a block. This wouldn’t surprise me, who knows the conditions where she came from.

Please people, friends, …. I’m not a cruel landlord. I rent out my land and property to people who need it. People that I feel will take care of it. I don’t come over until I’m invited to do so. My renters are more like trusted friends!
Point is, if they make improvements, that’s a plus for me, as long as the discount on rent doesn’t interfere with the property tax payments. Breaking even works! And sometimes I get a Christmas dinner in the process! Here’s tax for spilling my heart out!View attachment 4243637View attachment 4243638View attachment 4243639View attachment 4243666

Oooo that young Roo is a looker. What a beauty!

Hi, folks. Have a dilemma because daylight savings is ending this weekend and I’m going to be getting home after dark starting on Monday. I’m down to only three hens and Bridge is on a separate side of the run most of the time by herself because Flo is a jerk (bully) and Roxy prefers hanging out with Flo over Bridge. Sometimes I make Roxy hang out with Bridge anyway. 🥰🤣

So I put in a little wooden doghouse for Bridge so she has a little shelter until I get home from work. I also installed string lights that turn on at dusk. And in case of a power outage, I already installed a bunch of rechargeable undercabinet lights that are motion activated.

The lights are to deter rats. We have a huge problem on the mountain where I live. We have a problem, my neighbors have problems, and apparently they even are having problems in town down the hill. And the little town is a really swanky, wealthy little town. It’s like the rat population has exploded everywhere.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure the rats are living under the main coop on the other side of the run. So I’m doing my best to fully rat proof in between the two sides of the run so they aren’t running around with Bridge since her little house is at ground level. (She is a disabled, elderly hen and I love her SO much!)

Anyway, I’m so pleased with these little lights. I thought I’d show a couple photos here. I highly recommend them. I used gel gorilla superglue to adhere the metal strips to wood. The lights themselves are magnetic. They’re meant for indoors, but I don’t have them anywhere that’s really exposed to rain or sun. And it doesn’t typically freeze here. We really only have frost a few times a year.

Here is one light inside a gate frame:

Nobody sleeps in the little red coop. They like to hang out under it and I’ll probably use it next time I integrate chicks, but it mostly just sits there.

I also ordered a little motion sensor light that has adustable lighting for inside the little dog house/chicken house. I’ll mount it the same way with gorilla glue and a magnetic strip.
Great idea! Love it.
I am glad you decided on a wee dog house for Bridge.

I vote for a second ramp and door. If that is not an option, I would definitely tarp the corner of the run where she sleeps in case it gets windy. Poor sweet girl.
Thanks so much for all the helpful advice. I propped the front door open, put a table in front as an intermediate step, and then with bag of mealworms a.k.a. chicken crack in hand I called them and showed them how I put some in the table and then in the front of the coop. This is how I trained them to use the ramp - by putting some on every step up. It failed utterly - they just can't see that high up (I've got to get back to crest cutting and do more!). So until I get back my chicken tenders have to put them to bed every night. Hopefully they'll get it eventually.
When I get home in 2 weeks I can do another door and ramp since I plan on getting them a couple of little friends in the spring and Jamie I'm sure will harass them. It is her coop and run, after all

Those lights are so great! I've bookmarked this so that I can get some

Silly Cookie had a relapse in her ability to understand the concept of going South in order to turn the corner to go North to go to bed.
She has been doing it just fine and then forgot. Or she is playing me. Either is possible!
She can definitely see.
She also is now able to use the feeder but forgets how to do that sometimes too.
Sigh.

She is likely trying to get her Hooman to do her bidding. I have a few like that.

Gosh look at those feet! They are even more extreme than Henny Penny's!

You're going to have to start trapping those rats too. They're crafty so it will likely take a while. If you can load some dry ice into the tunnels under the main coop, it will take out the main base, but the town population will return. Save that for a day off so you can let Flo and Roxy and Bridge out while you ice the nuisances. Keep Lexi (? That beautiful dog) handy while doing so. Rats may pop out from unexpected places.

The lights are amazing. You are outstanding when it comes to supportive care for your ladies.

She may be small but she doesn’t like being pushed around.

Those lights are great. I have a couple to deal with a dark closet where my washer and dryer are.
