Leah

Wee Leah passed away today, I just couldn’t get calories into her, I might do a check of the crop to see if there are any visible signs of blockage. But I do feel there was more going on with her.

Petra is on her own now and a bit lost. Hopefully she will make some friends with the silkie chicks.
Oh no. So sorry.
:hugs

Oh. Nice idea. Will see what I have available. It is freezing tonight so maybe the yellow jackets will succumb.
If you can break open their nest after dark and spread it wide open, the cold should kill them. If it doesn't, (or you do it shortly before dark) soak the nest. The water will drown them, freeze, keep them from flying (thus attacking) and/or spread them all about without shelter for the night. Any way you slice it, good things for you, bad for the yellowjackets, and no poison so any dead bodies are safe for wildlife to eat.

Impressive technique!
That's what I thought. She is one determined girl. The white tank behind her is where we store hay. She and a few others discovered it, then we blocked their escape route. Except this one, I have to tie up or cut out more grape vines that are enabling her.
When I figured out what was happening...I found 30 eggs. I was wondering why I wasn't getting very many... :gig

Oh yes been there many times….

I used to cover my hay with sheets, but now I have a dedicated hay stall, which Mrs LC can access she’s small enough to fit through the stall door bars.

Jaffarra showed me this stash and Mede the sheet - thanks my lovely

And between two bales way up top in a space between the bales makes a nice nest. Glad I didn’t haul the sheet down!

And again up on top of the hay stack….

And one day before I completed the hay stall, they love hiding under those sheets!

I'm so very sorry. It's never easy with chickens.

I'm so sorry for you, Leah, and Petra. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs I know you tried very hard to save her....and I am sure that you were a comfort to her at least. They know when they are loved...and she clearly liked you back - jumping up on your shoulder for 'human 'momma hen' time :)

You do make this world better - one chicken at a time❤️❤️❤️❤️
