I'm not entirely sure the idea is correct, but....the concept of Dom white vs silver actually clicked for me. Glad it makes sense to someone besides just me....

Well I was keying in on the larger concept of multiple influences at once, and that each could have a specific effect on a specific color, and all this simultaneously.

Gave Hooky a beak-icure. She cooperated very well.
Started with dog nail clippers, finished with an electric baby nail file.

After. She is going to have such a good time eating tomorrow. I should have brought shredded cheese to reward her cooperation, she growled but was an absolute doll with how she let me move her head around to get the right angles. What a sweetie.

Fascinating.

My Roos do similar, they have their spots and their harems whom they want close to them, hence Mr LC up on the door with Tippy and now Buttercup. Clyde has Patches and Silver, and Mr P his old silkie girls.

Those Roos want nothing to do with any other hen when roosting except their girls I find. Of Course during the day it’s whole other story!

That pic just struck me....I think I have him at least somewhat figured out!

That info about silver affecting red. That's why he had the blonde look. His silver is covering the red which is bleeding through as straw/lemon (the lemon color may have more than just the silver going on). He throws orange Creamsicle offspring. (Other factors lighten the red to the creamsicle). They got the red color and not the silver from him.

Now the white.....he throws a lot of blue chicks, so he's got splash (affects black), but he doesn't have enough "fingerprints" ....unless he's splash AND Dominate white? (If both can be on the same bird, empirical evidence strongly suggests this).

Strip off all his white and he's classic black breasted red, if heavily modified......

Hahahahahahahaha - ok so I wasn’t thinking that. But yes he throws that orange colouring, and blue.

School chicks my niece hatched from my hens eggs and Mr P
All the light chicks turned splash and have the orange ruff around
Their necks

And Floyd who is a Marty egg, so whatever colour she is an Mr P

Mycoplasma outbreaks occur when chickens are under stress. That is well documented. Otherwise, it is not normally an issue. What creates the stress can be varied but avoiding an over amorous rooster seems pretty stressful to me.

All the chooks who were moulting here when I brought Petra and Leah here where the ones who became really sick.

This is another reason I am afraid if the ones moulting now get sick. Add in the cold weather and that is a good amt of stress.

How high could it go and still affect them? Could some settle in to the nest boxes or on the floor underneath that corner and still enjoy some added warmth?

They can (and have) move away from it along the ledge. I see Curly has moved away and a couple of the Noirans. As the temp falls here they will maybe move back inder it’s effects.

Looks like Marty under the heater along with someone else. One of the pullets likes to roost on the board wall I have separating the corner - Marty would peck the other off the ledge but the board gives her a space to herself.

I don’t think the nest boxes will feel the effect, maybe the floor if under it, I have it about 3’ up.

Beautiful job Will you be doing more shaping or wait to see how she eats before doing more? We acquired a Dremel kit in case we would need it to file beaks or nails but never had occasion/need to use it
