I get that happening here also, someone will rest their head on someone else, or sneak under a wing or their whole body. Not sure why but I have a few that just want to snuggle under someone.
Our Silkies are the snuggliest we ever had & inside the nestboxes. However, the standard breeds used the coop perch & distanced themselves or snuggled next to each other depending on the warmth they needed.

OUTDOOR BROODIES 2 10-22-2024.jpg

Cockerel idiocy story time.

Opened coop shortly after daylight. All spread out. Finished putting feed in coop, stepped out and closed big door. Only hens around the door. All roos/cockerels had spread out across the yard.

Jane came running towards me, Tundra in hot pursuit. View attachment 4262590Her feet went out from under her while trying to turn sharp at my feet. View attachment 4262595 He went by. She picked her self up and went the opposite direction. He about faced and went after her. She dodged around Primula and he turned to go after Cardhu instead. View attachment 4262589Cardhu squawks and started to bolt...when Daisy came up in response to the squawk and went for Tundra (feet, wings, and beak going).View attachment 4262587 He decided discretion was the better part of mating and left Cardhu alone. He then sauntered around me and grabbed Maizie who squawks and crouched.View attachment 4262586 He then managed to half stand on Maizie...backwards.... for all of half a second. Rose came up and goosed him, none to gently. View attachment 4262592He gave up...for the moment. And took a short run at Storm, who also ran. View attachment 4262588That's about the time Mortimer arrived in response to the squawks.View attachment 4262593 And Tundra went off in search of easier mating options.

1. Not every hen will run.

2. Roos will rescue their favorite 2-4. The others can also be rescued, but will have to squawk repeatedly/get nearer the roos first.

3. Not every hen will defend others.

4. Tundra is the most hormonal at the moment.....

Went back out for fresh photos to embed.

Got this too

And this

Sorry for not editing pics 1st.

2 hours later, Bijou has another one!
Does she just play w/ the mice? Or does she actually kill them?

Sounds cruel... but my farm mom fed the cat very little so it would have more incentive to hunt for mice/gophers/etc as food to ensure the rodents were killed & not released. It's no wonder the cats loved me cuz as a little kid I would sneak milk or table scraps to give to them

@Sylvester017 are you aware you have personal info attached to the pics from 1986? (visible if you click on the pictures to enlarge) Just letting you know in case you care about that sort of thing!
Thx...No problem though 🙂

It was dead before I came in to load the videos. Um sure she killed the 2nd one too, but no idea if either was eaten. At 7 months old, she plays with EVERYTHING. I was surprised at her ability to toss it and bat it more or less simultaneously. Bijou has FAST paws.

W/ all the batting, teeth biting, tossing, it looked like she did a pretty thorough job 💕 . Young energetic felines were the best mousers on the farm so Mom added a new female kitten every 2 to 3 years. Older ones eventually lost interest in the fervent chase/hunt ~ they still hunted but w/ less urgency.

I went out foraging for a good branch to create an extended corner roost, and for big logs/stumps to add to the obstacle course to help Piglet avoid Mr. Chips' attentions ....... and something happened.

Sigh.
Ouch! They were giving you sound advice🩷. Head injuries always loom larger than they are dangerous but still good to watch.

I've had more injuries on the head from moving toward open overhead freezer doors, car doors, & SUV trunk doors more often than I care to count!

Holy Dinah!

Nope nope nope - don’t make me drive down there…. You need to see an MD, esp if your neck is also hurting!

What on earth happened?!

Good grief! OK so you need to (with any head injury) see a doctor, you don’t need to be knocked out to sustain a concussion.

And I really do not want to scare you but a small bleed can get bigger over time, I have heard so many times from people I know, about them sustaining a subdural hematoma which took a month to 6 weeks to become a serious issue.

Please please please promise me you will

1) call someone and let them know what happened so they can keep an eye on you

2) go to see a doctor.

(It’s a really long drive for me to get to your place!)
