Interesting thought. Hit kippenjungle to see what it would predict. Buckeyes aren't listed. Hmmmm.....what looks close color wise?

RIR (comb exception).....playing with assorted color crosses for the RIR with a buff orp hen.....all results come out buff (should have a modified pea comb). Why? Currently: no idea.

How close are RIR and Buckeyes in color genetics? No idea.

Will chicks from Shehnai and the 3 Buffs all be buff? Only way to find out is hatch some. @ChicoryBlue if one or more of your ladies turns up broody will you let them hatch chicks (for science)? ;) answer can happen when a broody does
Hmmm, based on other things you have said about plumage genetics....
I think they come out buff because isn't Buff just red with a modifier/lightener gene? So, that means the offspring will have the modifier gene from the Buff parent. Maybe the second cross (BuffX Buckeye...then crossed back to a buckeye would have 50/50 shot at buff or Dark Red? (I guess depends on where/how modifier gene resides??)

Am I way off on my understanding of Buffs? This is just based on what I remember you saying in the past.:idunno:idunno:idunno

She's a character that's for sure, she's been doing really well since her procedure thankfully.

Let's hope you can get back to flying again soon - can't fly anyways in fog.

Wow those are gorgeous eggs.

Idiot drivers abound here also - snow and icy roads and they drive like maniacs!

I have no idea what this is... or who it is! Maybe Old Penelope?

Im a transplant from New England via Tampa. I can’t be expected to learn these things by osmosis!
I learn a lot of things by osmosis!

.cannot breathe under water (turn on your air supply, before diving!
. Don’t trust others dogs, no matter how tame they act.

Experience those are, not osmosis. Except maybe the electricity one. That can be both.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts. I'm proud to say that I passed the first time. My father was happy, but was also bothered by the way I parked between the cones. The words still disturb me but at least I received my license. I'll find a chicken photo later.
Hooray!!!

- Not the same, but, Q: What do you call someone who graduated absolute last in their medical school class? A: “Doctor”

I know Jack squat about buff vs red. They're both part of red/gold stuff. Silver turns them white. Mahogany, red, gold, buff, lemon....all shades of red/gold. Beyond that and the silver thing....

Now I'm going to have to dive down that rabbit hole. Is there something in red like BBS is in black? Sigh. Not tonight. Brain is dun (yes, spelled correctly for the state of mind). Is dun a chicken color too? It exists in horses and ducks.

I keep bugging my family to help me get my driver's license but they keep putting it off! I'm 35 for goodness sakes!
Although with my chronic debilitating migraines, I know why they're nervous to let me drive. It's on long stretches of road with open sky that I get them. But, if I am to be a good mother that takes her kid places and does things, I need a drivers license. We live out in the country too far away from everything!

You're never too old to get a drivers license & you'll be a more careful driver than a teenager IMO. & it's always good to have a license... you don't have to drive a lot... but nice for kid functions when they arise... or for emergencies... or for a general dental or medical appt. Good luck❣️

My Dad tried to teach me to drive. Same thing. He kept yelling ‘listen to the g****m engine’ for when to shift gear.
Now I can drive of course I know exactly what he meant - but I had no clue what I was listening to at the start.
In the end I paid for a couple of lessons so I understood when to shift up, and then had Dad take me for practice. That worked much better!

My teen sis was taught by our Pop to drive a stickshift car (1940's) & when she drove into a ditch, Pop yelled so bad, she cried & never drove again! What's wrong w/ Dads/males & no patience?! My first time behind the wheel I was 21 & my first DH tried to teach me stick on our new Corvair (even though I begged to buy an automatic transmission... he was a jerk)... so I went to a driving school instructor who was so patient, quiet, & kind, I passed the DMV test before needing to complete the lessons.

Relatives expect too much perfection from us... while strangers take our accomplishments in stride.
