Day 18 is standard for last candling and boosting the humidity, yes.
Thanks! I couldn’t wait though (for candling lol). We had a power outage here today and my batteries died on 1 thermometer so we decided to go ahead and candle. 4 of the 6 eggs show normal development with movement!!! The BA and smear look to be quitters......I’m going to give them to day 25 before throwing them out but not getting my hopes up. It does upset me a bit about smear because I have no idea what breed it was going to be! The egg is pretty light compared to the others so I was leaning toward blue Andalusian (I remember that was an available “white layer” breed at the time I ordered)

Ok I’m starting to get a bit superstitious here.....a Halloween hatch and if only 4 of my 6 eggs hatch that’s a 66.6% hatch rate! :barnie

Looking for a little hope and advice this morning -

Of the 4 eggs I left under the broody, all were developing when candled. When I went out to do my daily check on day 17, one egg was gone, one was smashed, and a third had a hole in it. Looking back that may have been that chick pipping, but I was mad about the other 2 smashed eggs and I opened it figuring the chick was dead. It wasn't, so I put it under broody, but she ate it.

Yesterday was day 21 and when I went to check the remaining egg, broody was out of the nest and the eggs were cold. I gave her about an hour, but she never went back to the nest, so I pulled the egg and warmed it up. After a couple hours I could see and feel movement when candled. I checked the broody again, but she never went back to the nest.

I set up an "incubator" -heating lamp and shoebox with a cup of water with pebbles yesterday afternoon, and I could still see some movement that looked like breathing when I candled this morning. I need to get a thermometer today to try to get temperature of my "incubator", but I figure since it was still moving this morning I can't be too far off.

Does my last egg have a chance?

Thanks!

Lisa

Always a chance!
I’m sorry your broody wasn’t a good momma. :(

Too cool is better than too hot, so be careful getting the temp right. When in doubt, keep it cooler.

I'm sorry about your broody. I would still try to hatch it too. I've read that women have put eggs in their bra until they got an emergency bator set up. Pretty much the perfect place

I've done that lol! Though I do need to say, having 4 baby quail in there during a power outage was definitely more interesting lol.

@LTreadwell I hope it hatches for you! Bad broodies are tough to get over, especially when they went so far :/
