I'm sorry about your broody. I would still try to hatch it too. I've read that women have put eggs in their bra until they got an emergency bator set up. Pretty much the perfect place

Haha, I was walking around with it in my armpit until I got a heating pad tent made to warm it up. That would have been pretty funny and much easier!

I've done that lol! Though I do need to say, having 4 baby quail in there during a power outage was definitely more interesting lol.

@LTreadwell I hope it hatches for you! Bad broodies are tough to get over, especially when they went so far :/

I'll bet it was :gig

Looking for a little hope and advice this morning -

Of the 4 eggs I left under the broody, all were developing when candled. When I went out to do my daily check on day 17, one egg was gone, one was smashed, and a third had a hole in it. Looking back that may have been that chick pipping, but I was mad about the other 2 smashed eggs and I opened it figuring the chick was dead. It wasn't, so I put it under broody, but she ate it.

Yesterday was day 21 and when I went to check the remaining egg, broody was out of the nest and the eggs were cold. I gave her about an hour, but she never went back to the nest, so I pulled the egg and warmed it up. After a couple hours I could see and feel movement when candled. I checked the broody again, but she never went back to the nest.

I set up an "incubator" -heating lamp and shoebox with a cup of water with pebbles yesterday afternoon, and I could still see some movement that looked like breathing when I candled this morning. I need to get a thermometer today to try to get temperature of my "incubator", but I figure since it was still moving this morning I can't be too far off.

Does my last egg have a chance?

Thanks!

Lisa
Yeah, that is the problem with broodies. Sometimes they are great and then at times they can be terrible.
I hope the little one makes it.

Large fowl or bantam?
I have bantam cochins. And I’ve dontated hatching eggs for one of this HALs contests. :D
Thanks. Looking for the large breed. I want some nice plump wobbly chickens .Had one before She was the sweetest thing. She was actually the first chicken I lost to a predator. Went to the store and came back a couple hours later and she was dead in the yard. Something got hold of her .The rest were all riled up and wouldn't go back in the yard .had to force them in that night. I miss my sweet big momma.

So while we are waiting for hatch day I was out cleaning and moving different breeds around now that they are getting older. Two black australope pullet hens had started laying. One or both and I really don’t know which laid this egg but gosh if that’s a pullet egg what’s she going to do when older. Even the small ones are decent sized for pullets.

Wow!
Although, I’ve seen them lay a big first egg, then they go back small for a few days and gradually increase in size, so hopefully that’s what happened here. :D
