Six months ago we moved to a small town, while my girlfriend was looking at the sight and space inside (while inspecting the new house), I was wondering how much living creatures I can fit in the backyardJ
Cut to 5 month later after a long winter, fixing our home (when we got it there was no bathroom!) I was tired of mandatory stuff and had way too much leftover materials.
So what do you do? I spontaneously started building a coop(3x4) and a covered run (10x6) using most guidelines from BYC (I’ve been lurking for weeks), a self-closing feeder and a PVC system that hold 5 gallons of water.
I know exactly what I want, but I don’t know if it will work. I want 5 hens each from different breed(will it work?), between 12 and 18 months old. I’ve settled on a NHB(dutch breed), Sussex, Maran, Araucana and a barnevelder.
Any advice, tips or questions, please don’t hesitate! I can use all the help I can get!
On Friday I went to a farm which advertised that they had 18 weeks old chickens, I couldn’t find 5 that I liked so ended up taking 3.

They also figured out the drinking nipples within the hour, really happy about that!
Now I am looking for another 2 to add…
greetings,
