Inexpensive leg bands needed (2)

An old acquaintance of mine raised 7,500 hundred cockerels of just one strain each year and shipped these bad boys all over the Pacific. He also raised an equal number of different strains of game fowl for sale in other parts of the world. Now these cockerels were raised by contract employees in mostly free range conditions to ensure that they were strong, healthy, and in tip top physical condition. However all the Mamas & the Papas of these 15,000 cockerels all came right off his home farm. Seeing that most game hens only produce 25 to maybe 50 eggs per year tops, and 50% of these chicks are females, tell me how much free time this individual had to keep up with, and change, little less ogle the zip ties on his hens' and roosters' feet?

I am sure commercial, large-scale producers have their own methods. Those of us with backyard flocks can do things differently. So sorry to see the damage caused to the bird in the photo you posted. I do not let things like that happen around here, and am certain that most of us are attentive to our livestock. Many things will work if the humans pay attention.

Exactly!

Seriously @chickengeorgeto, keep context in mind.
Don't compare huge commercial operations with small backyard flocks.
Your song rants on this subject, and their delivery, is really getting old.

this thread is about a small everyday flock, not massive productions.

Exactly one of those links refers to a zip tie. One of the reasons I use them is that they are more likely to fall off than to become ingrown. Zip tie material is not as durable as metal or the hard plastic used for commercial banding. The fact is, most of us are very careful about the creatures under our care. That's why the folks who had problems posted about them here. I note, too, that the majority of the posts deal with birds who were acquired with the unnoticed embedded band and that the new keeper was anxious to see the bird healed and doing well. Again, that is because most of us are watching for trouble. This post is not intended to be combative, by the way...

point is that injry do happen i jus happen 2 pick random post from the result where peeples have problem that was 17 random post if u want 2 get picky then read them all
i count 11 where peeple put on band themself or did not expand on who put on. 6 chicken came with band already if look at more then probbly will find more that came with band wheo really care who put it on point was that injury happens and peeples need to be atentive to any kind band that is on chicken leg thats ALL

wow is for intolerant of other poster views just get tire of that no imply to u 7fatcow

I don't see intolerance at all. You could say the same for the poster that was against them, his attitude/delivery was not good.. People were just saying on their experience that they aren't ALWAYS a bad option. No one gave him the same delivery he gave everyone else. The situation he gave just happened to be a massive operation, not really relevant to the original poster. We can find pros and cons all over about one topic.

Intolerance would be people telling him he can't voice his opinion at all.
