June 2022 Hatch-a-long

Your chicks are going to be so adorable. I have a good feeling all 3 will hatch!

I’m gonna join although most of you are finishing up and mine just started! I have 3 Olandsk Dwarf (OD) eggs under my broody silkies that are due 6/21, and I set more eggs in the incubator Thursday night. That set is a combo of OD eggs and crele and spangled OEGB eggs. These eggs were shipped and I will be surprised if any hatch tbh. Shipping scrambled half of them and the others don’t look promising. At least two looked to have early quit. So I added 5 of my own ODs and those look to be progressing. They will be due 6/30. So we shall see how things go I guess! The person who shipped me the eggs is being super awesome and sending me a new set next week! But they won’t hatch till early July…so I’m gonna be overlapping HALs.

I am hoping the next batch of eggs ships better as I really want to add some new blood to my ODs! Being a rare landrace breed it’s important not to overdo it on the line breeding. I need at least a couple new friends for Bruno! He loves his ladies

Also jumping on late! I have 16 Silkie eggs due on 6/23. Some were stored in the fridge for up to 3 weeks! Did not think they had much of a chance developing, but are going strong here on DAY 10. I usually do not set anything over 2 weeks old. Had to time setting them until I knew I had a few days off in a row at hatch time. I was not planning on hatching now, but I hate to let the fertile Silkie eggs go to waste, I have been selling hatching eggs, but did not have any buyers for these, so here we are! My last hatch was in March, which seems like ages ago.

I can’t believe you have gone thins long without hatching!! BYC isn’t the same without you It seems your work is just really hampering your fun!

First serama egg hatched!

I did the unthinkable, an official count. I have 29 chicks!
14 purchased Black Copper Marans
15 Barnyard mixes.

I should have 24 shipped eggs arriving Tuesday. Plus another 5 local white hatching eggs.

Here are some pictures of the my mini flock. One is all 29. The next only the 14 hatch-along barnyard mixes. Finally a few of my favorite. It’s a super chill chick. Seems to enjoy being held. Doesn’t run away when placed back in the brooder.

Anyone want to guess what color it’ll be as it ages? I’m terrible at guessing or naming colors/patterns. I’ll probably do a separate post in the chick raising section.

I’ve got 3 dozen coturnix eggs in my other incubator due to hatch 6/22

Congratulations! They’re adorable I want seramas so bad but hubs said no more chickens till later this summer.

I believe my hatch is finished now. My totals are
12/16 chickens that made it to lockdown
14/29 quail but I’ll have to check fertility/non-starters tomorrow

I know I had 1 chicken & at least 3 quail dis after pip & I’ll check all remaining eggs tomorrow.

ETA- of the chicken eggs 6 hatched from my flock & 6 were shipped cross country from Sacramento, CA to Alabama
