Miscellaneous Pics Today...(New Pics Post #24)

Glad you are enjoying Suede's grandbabies Gretchen! His first hen was named Velvet, though sadly, I lost her awhile back. I have two daughters of Suede here, Delilah, who is my Velvet's daughter and is black, and Glenda whose mother is my Buff Brahma. They are big girls and Glenda has broody tendencies.

You have a nice holiday, too, Gretchen.

***ETA: I completely forgot that Delilah also went broody this past summer! Guess I forgot because I didn't give her any eggs. She was about my 7th one in the space of two months to want to hatch babies, so she had to sit on air till she got tired of it.

ooo ooo... that would be THRILLING if they went broody! Me and my daughters have been really wanting a broody... I think that part of chicken rearing would be fun for us to watch and experience. I'll have to have my eyes on the look out for a good mate for them though...none of mine will do...whether that means hatch some or find one some where.

For now I'm thinking of keeping an ee roo we hatched--but not for breeding with orps, that would be silly. Busters buff orp roos? A couple of them are mean and they have huge massive combs I'm having problems with frost bite. I'll be weeding out in the next week here. Kinda glad to be rid of my meaties and extra roos in a week. whew...big ol piggies.

Alrighty now! Cynthia! You must tell me what breed Caroline is! She is the very spit and image of my Brewenna! Gorgeous girl by the way! What a nice hefty looking little lady! I bet you get some very nice sized eggs from her.

Everybody loves Caroline when they see her. She is a Buff Brahma. And yes, she lays huge, very rounded eggs, a light cream color. Right now, she isn't laying, not since she finished her molt. This is a scary time for us, when their bodies try to get back into production. Already, one has stuff building up in her abdomen and is being treated with penicillin. That's little Olivia, who is in one of the pictures.

Keeping fingers fervently crossed for Olivia! Let us know how she does. Sure hope she snaps out of this quickly, Cyn. You need another sick girl like I need another hole in my head!

So, Caroline is a Buff Brahma, eh? Somebody told me that all Brahma's have to have feathered feet.

After seeing your Caroline, I have my doubts about the veracity of that claim. And I'm more convinced now than ever before that this is what my Brewenna is. Yay!! Nice to pretty much have a breed identification for her.

Though I'm sure she's light years away from being SQ.

But she's a dear old thing. Always chats away to me whenever I'm doing anything out in the yard. Or putting together their morning meal and treats. She just keeps up this constant stream of chitchat with me!

Does Caroline talk to you constantly too? I wonder if this is a trait of the breed. Nobody else in my flock talks as much as Brewenna does....must take after her "mom"!!

**nodding in agreement** And that probably explains Brew's lack as well!

Thanks for sharing that with me Cyn. It's something that has been driving me a bit bappy for some time.

I don't care what she is. She's a sweetie. That's all that really matters to me. Now if I could just get her to be as cuddly as all the rest of the "Brahma" family birds I've heard about around here!
