I always built boxes of 2x4s covered in hardware cloth and bolted to the wall if i used heat lamps. The holders they come with are useless! I nearly had a barn burn down. Luckily i am always checking animals at many different times of the day.

What is up with the holders???? Is that seriously the best a man could come up with???

I was thinking about a piece of plywood hung above the vent to act like an awning, attached at the top but out from the wall 6 or 8 inches to allow air in and out.

I'm not sure if that would work for the problem I have. The vents I got worked well until the snow came along, like the snow was being blown upwards into the vent, but it might work for @The Great Eel Man.

They probably bought those holders from the cheapest bidder. I never use those, they are too dangerous!

There are many things that can be done. I saw someone built a chimney out of soup cans so it looks like one of the old style smoke stacks but it was for ventilation

I built a holder with a regulator that i can adjust the power and put a cage around it so the chickens can't hit it or get to close to it but i never use it. I put a ridge vent on the roof and everything stays good inside

Maybe so, but it is inadvisable for the gluten intolerant *aka* this girl. Besides, I've been dealing with overproduction issues a lot. Although I have to stay away from peppermint because it decreases my supply and I end up with a fussy boy for a day.
