Ok handy folks--ehem Cappy-- Any thoughts on how to fix this? Wish I could say I was doing something fun :bun but I sat on the bed to put socks on and went through the floor.
As you can see the seem of the board ended about 7" from the floor joist. No sub floor.
My only thought was put a piece under the end that needs support and screw it to the boards on either side of the hole. Then fit the broken piece in and screw it down. Using the breakaway screws so there isn't a line of screw heads on the floor.
Thoughts?
The best thing you can do is get a piece of 3/4 plywood and cut it as big as you can but still fit it through the hole. Then attach a screw or eyebolt in the center of the plywood for a handle so you can hold it up against the bottom of the floor. You will need a counter sink and some wood putty. Use the counter sink to make it so the screws don’t stick out. Then screw your plywood to the floor and attach the broken piece to the floor and cover the holes with putty

I can't figure out from the picture if that is tongue and groove or not. Looks like you need to replace a couple of boards. How can there be no underlay??

I hear ya, got a rough looking bunch right now lol! Everyone is dirty, Lulu is balding, Hobo is molting, Bea has a bald butt because I got trim happy I've got like three semi normal looking hens.Of course the roo looks flawless after his tips fell off,but guys always get off easy.:)
My poor Svart X has a Mohawk. She needs a helmet. Boys ripping out head feathers....

Cheap fix take two boards put them under the floor and screw from the top down. Then screw the broken end too the patch boards.

I was thinking of doing what Rae said. Yes it is tongue and groove so I know I'll have to remove the bottom edge of the tongue to get the broken piece back in. No subfloor is awesome! I can tell when the basement light is on from the first floor! :p The house is old as dirt. Pretty sure that's what keeping some of it together. Packed in dirt. I rent so I'm not spending a lot of money to fix this. Want it to look nice but I'm not going crazy.
Would the breakaway screws work?

Thought these would be easier then counter sinking and the whole nine yards.... I'll glue the crap out of it too. I think it was just pure dumb luck the wheel of the bed landed on that board. Been there 3 yrs and haven't gone through the floor anywhere else.

My sad looking soggy group. No wonder the humidity in the coop is so high. 8 of the 15 go out and get drenched then go in the coop and shake off like wet dogs. Goofy birds.

There are tons of old homes that have no underlay. The old pier and beam home built before the 70’s like that. It does have tongue and groves which is a good thing. Hey @FlyingNunFarm some good wood glue would be a good idea when repairing that.

That looks so familiar lol! My dummies get saturated so much they can't even jump on the roost I end up looking like an idiot toweling off chickens in the dark. You'd think with all the water they'd be clean.
