My giant human had her 2nd competition this weekend. It's shocking to see what's all involved w/ this. 408 routines over 2 days, luckily she's only in one routine so it was just 1 long day for us. Her routine got high gold & she got her first pin for her jacket. Her team sent her up to collect their special award for outstanding in dance division. She's the 5th from the left in the photo.

My tiny human bought a harness for her chicken. We tried it last night. The strap that goes along her back too short so we're going to have to modify it a bit. That poor chicken.. Olive is kind of large, it would probably fit on another bird just fine, but it HAS to be Olive. We're supposed to have nice DRYYYYY weather for the next couple of days so they'll finally get to leave their mud pit and go explore other mud pits for a little bit at least. Yesterday I could year the worm moving through the mud, but it was super windy so I didn't want to sit out and supervise them.

I finally got my new trail camera put up. In one night I saw what appears to be a raccoon, a definite possum, what appears to be Tubbs the cat, a chipmunk, what I believe is a rat, and several bunnies. I had a branch that was being blown in the way so I removed it & will hopefully get better pics. I'll be setting the trap tonight.
:love What does she compete in?
I have family members who compete in cheer and hip hop.
One of them just took home a NCA national championship trophy and jacket this passed weekend. She will be heading back to Disney World for world competitions in May.
It is very exciting!

Wow, world competitions?! That's amazing! I bet it's really competitive at that level.
She does clogging, but in competition it's just consider a small group b/c there aren't many clogging groups to make it it's own category. They were the only clogging routine at either of the events we've been to. I'm dying of jealousy. VIP is the competition we just did this weekend and they're going to Disney in July, but our studio decided to go do Ticket to Broadway Nationals in Atlantic City (much closer for us).. but I kinda would have rather gone to Disney, esp w/ the cost of it all involved. At least it would have been a trip we already wanted to take.

Very interesting stuff about the treats... I may need to reconsider how much we are feeding our flock. BTW, the amount of layer feed a chicken should consume in a day is around .3 cups, aka a third cup. Ducks are .35. I learned about it when trying(and failing) to convince my parents to get ducks.
It's actually about .25 pounds per day for chickens.
It depends on each particular feed how many cups weigh a pound.

A little Polish rooster killing a pit bull????

Troll much??

Last summer/ early fall I'd go let them out early on weekends so they could run around more. The days I let them out before early afternoon I would only get a couple eggs. IDK why, I'd expect they'd go in to lay when the urge hit them, but if I went over before noon to let them out I'd only get the eggs that were laid before I got there.
I occassionally get someone who will lay on the floor, but normally they use the nest. One-freaking-nest. We have more than one, but that's the best one & everyone wants it.

Do you have an attic space? Those bugs often form a mating ball in attics. They can get pretty big. http://www.asianladybug.com/asian-lady-bug-control
They don't bother hiding in the attic. They have mating balls in the corners of rooms and in my upper kitchen cupboards. They seem to like to come in through one room in particular and all attempts at stopping them have failed. Once inside they find fly window traps in most of the windows around the house. Of course the bathroom, with the window in the shower, doesn't have a sticky. (It doesn't stay sticky) So that's their favorite place to hang out...

Dear friends.
Omg. I have been missing you all.

I have been working on a writing project and have had to cut myself off of all my “fun stuff” or I will never meet the deadline of March 30.

My only chicken news is that my sweet broody one, was toying with being Broody for weeks then finally succumbed. I tried the cage and that had no effect at all this time.
We were having to feed her by hand and each day was more difficult.
Finally I decided the best thing for her was a new home where she could live out her dream.
I posted a long and heartfelt ad on my local craigslist after reaching out with no luck to the few chicken people I know here, and waited for them to reach out to others they knew.

I got three responses and one was a definite no, one was a hmmm maybe, but the third sounded just right.

It turns out they live just 2.4 miles from me, have a similar size flock (little) , a nice rooster and were hoping one of their hens would be a broody one, to no avail.

I sat in my car with my girl on my lap at the hand off location and cried my eyes out for a half hour waiting for her. I left my house a little early since I spent the whole day trying to keep a stiff upper lip for my DH who was a wreck. I didn’t want us to both fall apart at the same time and I didn’t want him to think I was doubting my decision.

She was extremely nice though and I am certain (well almost) that I did what was best for my favorite hen.

She sent me a picture the next day happily sitting on six eggs. I so hope they hatch. She is going to be the very best chicken mom ever.
:hit

Also please keep DH in your thoughts on Thursday. He’s going for a cardiac stress test to Try to determine the reason for the chest pain/discomfort he’s been experiencing the past few weeks.
To say he is “anxious about the outcome” is a gross understatement.

I am going to try to allow myself some time each day to catch up on here.

Love you guys and gals

I'm so sorry you had to rehome your girl, but it sounds like she's going to do well there. I hope everything goes well on Thursday for you and your husband.
