I know. They were making the water so dirty with all the poop. My son said yesterday we needed to get rid of some of them. I said, well, I did. He said, I thought there weren’t as many. Mom, did you flush them? I said, they found a new home. He kept on and I admitted it. Haha! Those things are crazy!

Hahahahahahaha. Yeah, right.

Unless maybe it's a very young pit puppy?!!
Even then I would think mum dog would have something to say about it.
It was a total troll.

@apryl29 I sure do. It's so gross cause they leave a stain in the corners. I was cleaning upstairs in the room I know they come into the house through and moved the bed. Sweeping them sounded like rice crispies popping. It's so bad.
:sick just :sick

@Smuvers Farm just saw some tornado stuff on the news from your area. Glad you are ok!

We are OK! The flooding has pretty much destroyed our driveway.... and not sure if we wanna just buy a couple of dump trucks of gravel and *fix* it ourselves, or submit to our insurance to see what they'd do to *fix* it. Half our driveway is pretty much washed out. Our neighbor couldn't even drive his truck around our bend the other day! :frow

Dear friends.
Omg. I have been missing you all.

I have been working on a writing project and have had to cut myself off of all my “fun stuff” or I will never meet the deadline of March 30.

My only chicken news is that my sweet broody one, was toying with being Broody for weeks then finally succumbed. I tried the cage and that had no effect at all this time.
We were having to feed her by hand and each day was more difficult.
Finally I decided the best thing for her was a new home where she could live out her dream.
I posted a long and heartfelt ad on my local craigslist after reaching out with no luck to the few chicken people I know here, and waited for them to reach out to others they knew.

I got three responses and one was a definite no, one was a hmmm maybe, but the third sounded just right.

It turns out they live just 2.4 miles from me, have a similar size flock (little) , a nice rooster and were hoping one of their hens would be a broody one, to no avail.

I sat in my car with my girl on my lap at the hand off location and cried my eyes out for a half hour waiting for her. I left my house a little early since I spent the whole day trying to keep a stiff upper lip for my DH who was a wreck. I didn’t want us to both fall apart at the same time and I didn’t want him to think I was doubting my decision.

She was extremely nice though and I am certain (well almost) that I did what was best for my favorite hen.

She sent me a picture the next day happily sitting on six eggs. I so hope they hatch. She is going to be the very best chicken mom ever.
:hit

Also please keep DH in your thoughts on Thursday. He’s going for a cardiac stress test to Try to determine the reason for the chest pain/discomfort he’s been experiencing the past few weeks.
To say he is “anxious about the outcome” is a gross understatement.

I am going to try to allow myself some time each day to catch up on here.

Love you guys and gals

staceylove!!!! I am so sorry about your wonderful chicken..... it had to have been heart breaking. I am sure she is happily cooing and singing to her new eggs. I know Xena was a thrilled little chicken when I got eggs for her.
I will definitely keep DH in my heart this week for his stress test!

PIC and I didn't officially get up today until after 11. Our lovely jackass dog, Buddy (aka Wiggles) was having seizures. He is on medication, but Zavier was giving him the wrong dose, so my fault. I tend to wrap him in a towel and hold him while he has his seizure, and then give him a drink of water and sing to him and rock him until he calms down. We then snuggle up and rest until he has another seizure. Between midnight and 0530 this morning he had about 7. We gave him a double dose of his meds, but it takes a bit to kick in.... and this morning he is back to his jackass, wiggly self! :D

Also, we give our chickens some scratch or BOSS daily. We are not worried about our chickens living a LONG life, as they are not being kept as pets..... and a hand full or 2 of cracked corn or sunflower seeds or meal worms brings some joy to their lives.....

Thunder Monkey, or newest AND ONLY boy cat, has taken to playing with raw potatoes. We find them on the kitchen floor every morning. The newest thing: we're finding all of the doggie fetch balls in the cat littler box. PIC found 7!!!! of them in the litter box today. :barnie

Stacey! How are ya? Sorry about your hen, but it seems she must be happier. Good for both of you!

I think the cat is playing dirty fetch.:lau

I bet if you bring in a chicken or 2 they'll love you for the crispy treats.
