Kitty litter, at least the cheap stuff is clay...
We have clay soil here, some of it is high percentage. I made a sculpture in high school and they displayed it in the local library. I never got it back! Then i made a bubble fountain and displayed it in my tank there and i got all that stuff back.

When I was in Saudi checking out the local library, I came across a "survival guide" for homesteaders in the 18th century. It was a really tough read because of the old English language... Thankfully they also had an old dictionary. But the book was really intriguing. And had ton of information, that I truly believe has been lost in our modern era. When I got back to the states and discovered the internet I started digging for old school solutions to modern problems. It was crazy fun. My initial focus was gardening as I could not grow a thing in Northern VA.

Next up was food preservation.. If I could actually grow something, how do I keep it over winter. Of course, being the geek that I am, as I learned these things I had a biologist/food scientist that could tell me why these things worked.

Just an interesting historical tid bit... Why were all the french sauces developed? They were developed to cover the taste and smell of rancid meat that had been cooked at a high enough temp to kill the bugs.

I think it would be awesome if you wrote an article and shared with us your knowledge.

Or write a book and offer for purchase. You get paid for your hard work and we enjoy the fruits of your labor

:sick Why not salt or smoke the meat to preserve it in the first place?

I don’t feel like I got a great tasting Thanksgiving dinner. I definitely didn’t get a hot one, waiting for late-show’r-uppers. So, I am making a small Thanksgiving supper for dh and I tomorrow night, and I am going to smoke a turkey breast.

Sounds delicious! I fined on leftover pizza and Vikings Marathon.

I gave my turkey and all the fixings away to my neighbor. I know how her and family are very tight with money right now. They did invite me to partake but I begged off. A nice quiet day a home was all I needed.

That was really nice of you!
